View Full Version : Max Payne & Win XP
Has anyone else had troubles running the game with Win XP Profesional? I can get as far as loading it up then cut's back out to the desktop. I have the latest 1.02 patch installed.
I've also tried a few different set's of drivers for my radeon. Any idea's?
well i have the demo and it worked just fine on XP Pro for me :)
Thanks for the reply. I'm downloading the Demo just to see if that works or not. At least that'll let me know if it's the game or not.
I installed Windows XP build 2600 and now Max Payne works great! Must just have been a bug in the earlier beta versions. Still need to do some tweaking though. I'm not impressed with the speed of Win XP while gaming so far. But I love the stability over Win98 or ME.

i could see the difference in the loading period of time,it was loading faster in win2000 (i think they would do the same in xp although i had XP for 1 HOUR only they suck)BUT in winme although the loading was slower for 5-7 seconds i had much better playback not even one frame dropped.

A bug?! In a young load of a new Windows OS?! Oh no way! I would have never seen that one coming! I'm floored!

Yup, and there was plenty of it in the above post!!!:D
I'm sorry, I just find it hard to believe that people are still shocked by the fact that new Microsoft OSes have compatibility problems or bug fixes right out the gate. I learned that lesson back with Windows 98. With 95 I was willing to let it slide, but it became consistent, so I figured Microsoft couldn't tell their asses from a hole in the ground. But that's just my jaded view of the world. Perhaps someday, Microsoft will come out with Windows X-Gamer, and it'll have no problems, and run every PC game known to man. But I'm not holding my breath.
I'm not surprised at the fact that a new OS would have troubles running certain games or software. But were all here to help each other out. So If I have a problem I'll post it. Almost always one or more people will have suggestions or solutions for the problems.
I understand there are conflicts and bugs in new software. But I also understand that more times then not someone somewhere will have a fix for it.

I got a hold of the Final Profesional version. 2600. And it fixed the problem. But I wiped out XP and installed Win 2K. I like it much better so far. Although I have'nt tried to play Max Payne since I put Win2K Pro in. I beat it before I Installed it.

this has happened with max payne at me one time, i ont remember the exact chapter or part but i realised that it was a problem with the save file.the max-payne run under winME.
I had to patch my max payne to get it to work with 2600 only had 1.01 so used that patch and works fine.
nice game btw ending was cool only problem is it is too short.
