Blu-ray makes it possible to record over 2 hours of HDTV, or more than 13 hours of SDTV on a 27GB disc.

There are also plans for higher capacity discs that are expected to hold up to 54GB of data

54GB would be cool, fit like 12 dvds on one disc, I'd be down for that, but I'll probably wait until the 108GB model comes out.

Hopefully this will pound down the $10 DL DVD's that are disgustingly overpriced.

Are you serious about that? There's a 108GB disc?

Nice.....Too bad the initial burners will most likely be unreliable and overpriced. I'd probably wait until the 2nd or 3rd Gen burners come out.

I wonder if the initial burners will be a grand similar to the days of the first CD-RW drives.

but cannot read or write conventional CD and DVD-RAM discs
Here come duel drive setups again!!! :)

As far as the storage space goes.... Lets hope the disks get cheap quick. Perfect backup disks!!!

Depends how much they cost for me. If they cost under 400 then I will get one right away. If they are closer to 800 or above then forget it. Blu-Ray has been the only reason that I'm eyeing the PS3.

Same here, just imagine a 50GB game

^^^ dido and burning about 20 DVD's is a pain and dual layer disks arent trustable yet for me to put all my info on them yet.

Im surprised no one really cares that they wont read CDs other than me. Hmmmmm.....

I welcome these new drives. Esp for back up purposes. I was looking at tape backups and also the iomega rev 90gig drives but they are terribly expensive. Iomega is cheaper than tapes but the disks are still $50-60 each unless you buy 4 for $150.

who said they won't play CDs? They plays CDs and DVDs :eh?:

EDIT: well maybe this drive can't, but this doesn't apply to all future Blue Ray burners.

Let us hope.... :)

Depends on how big the new Blu-Ray laser and other parts are in comparison. Might only be enough room for 2 lasers?!? We will see.

I already run a duel setup system so it wont bother me. 1 cheap DVD drive I can kill playing games and watching movies without worrying and 1 burner. I don't want to have to run a triple setup tho. 1 Cheap DVD, 1 CD/DVD burner(for those hundreds of blank Cd's I still have) and 1 blu-ray/dvd burner.
