I read from this other forum that if u set the resolution higher in a game like Battlefield 2 then the GPU will take the load and ur card won't be bottlenecked by ur CPU. Is this true? Because my 6800nu on BF2 can only run on low settings becuz of my computer.

P4 2.4OC2.8
756MB RAM
6800Nu

I'm thinking of any way in which that makes sense at all...

At higher resolutions it can be a case that the bottleneck in a system changes from cpu to gpu.
At low resolution with a fast card you maybe limited with the frame rate from what cpu you have simply because the gpu is churning out frames faster than the cpu can deal with. It could be a case of a 3ghz p4 with a 6800gt doing 100fps in a game at 800x600 resolution, but if you changed the gpu to a 7800gtx it still only does 100fps because the cpu is running at its fastest already and it can't proccess more than the 100fps a second.
If we upped the resolution to to 1600x1200 and now the system with the 6800gt can only do 50fps but the 7800gtx can do 80fps its because the cpu can deal with proccessing the frames at this rate, but the gpu can't prodcue frames fast enough at the new resolution.

It's sort of like that but it isn't always the case of up the resolution and your gpu is a bottleneck. I suggest reading some anandtech reviews to maybe get a better idea as they normally touch on the subject a bit.

Also I think I understand what you're trying to say but by upping your resolution it won't make the game run faster.

What resolution are you trying to run BF2 at? you should be able to run it with settings higher than low.

Right now I am running BF2 at 1024X768, I don't know why but when I even turn the settings to medium it starts to lag when stuff starts happening and it drops to like 16 frames. I think it might be my computer because it seems to load when that happens. But I also heard it's better to have like 2 gigs for BF2. Also if I wanted to make my computer faster would I have to buy a new motherboard or just a processor? If so would the memory I have on my computer now be useless?
