At startup parents computer shows error in sys.ini not found aspienum.vxd. When opening nero says wnaspi32.dll not found. Windows Media Player as well as a host of other progs. have given similar error messages, or fail without giving reason. It's a windows 98 pII. Same error multiple drives. Drive is functional as a reader. Any suggestions? Any bundles to try installing?

It's been a very long time since I labored with Windows 98. I remember it being quite troublesome. It looks like your Windows installation is corrupted. Win98 would do this all by itself without overclocking. I would try reinstalling Windows over the old version so you avoid reformatting and losing any data. If this fails, as sometimes it does, then you need to reformat and reinstall. Perhaps someone has a simpler solution, but that's how I'd proceed.

I never had that problem. Likely a virus.

It could be, RJARRRPCGP. I didn't think of that. My Win 98 systems were always getting messed up. All it took was a reboot.
