I've been running Windows 2000 for a few months now. It's worked perfectly until I got to college. From then until now it's functionality has been going downhill at a rapid rate. I've reinstalled several times, and loaded a lot of software. My virus scan software is up to date, and it shows no viruses. I am unable to run any number of programs for fear of an unrecoverable blues screen showing either "irq less or not equal" or "irq greater than or not equal". I've installed my H20 system, also. Is it possible that the pump ( at the bottom of the case) magnets are interfering with my PC? It's a mag drive Eheim. I also have rounded my own cables and have cut the insulation on some of them on accident. I wrapped them in electrical tape but I don't know. I do not believe they are shorting out. Any help would be appreciated. Would a simple reformat solve my problems or should I revert to 98SE? I also took my proc back to it's default speed, but it hasn't changed anything.

Yea, its your cables, if not it should be

If you really must round your own, go to walmart, the auto section, buy some plastic electric cable wraps, they look like springs, take those, roll your cable and thread the wraps around them, they will hold them round. you still might get some cross talk but i doubt it

Replace all your cables today!! If they are not the problem at least you have eliminated them.

Yea my first thought when reading that was the cables when I saw that... But a question, are you formatting when you reinstall? or just installing over? That is prolly not the cause.. but it could be causing some probs there too... But I would replace those cables pronto!

I have had this computer running all day so far and no probs

I dont think it's the cable or the memory that are causing this. Although memory could be the culprit. You have a VIA chipset on this board and using VIA'a 4-in-1's?

I`am using the via 4in1 4.34 I can tell ou if I go to 133 my win2000 crashes and all this seemed to have happened by going to the latest 4A bios ...but I did try the 3C bios but same thing also when I was installing win2000 I got all sorts of errors so i set the bios to safe defaults and all was ok so I think my problem is the ram

I replaced my hard drive cable with another ATA/66 cable and all's well now. I suspect there is corrupted data all over my hard drvie, so I'm going to reformat and load XP Pro anyway. I am using the latest 4in1 434 VIA drivers. Didn't help/hurt my stability at all.

The fan grill interfered with the P/S mount in my Chenbro Case, and I didn't know of any nice solution. It also didn't help the cooling of the P/S much because of the way it was blowing. So I took it out. The air is still cool coming out the back, so I'm not going to worry about it.

If it is just the fan grill that is getting in the way you can fix it by removing the grill, mounting the PS and then screwing the grill on the back of the case over the PS fan.
