Looks awesome... another 500 dollars in addition to the Creative X-Fi F1delity and 1 GB more RAM...
how do wireless speakers work? do you still have to plug them into an outlet?
i guess you guys dont get it, WIRELESS = POOP SOUND, i would never trust wireless to give me the best audio whatsoever, but i guess if you are paranoid of cords, you should be fine, lol

they also have a Z-5400 set that they havent put up on the site yet, its basically the z-5450 set but without the wireless rear speakers ;) and close to 3/4 to 1/2 the price
you have any links to the 5400s?

Wireless speakers that I have heard were analog; they do have a lot of noise in them.
Assuming that both the front and rear speakers have a digital wireless link:
** For wireless transmission to the rear channels, Logitech introduces the world's first THX®-certified wireless rear speaker system that features independent rear channels (no wires between rear speakers or a receiver box). This proprietary digital wireless technology offers state-of-the-art clarity and reliability with adaptive channel hopping, redundant transmission of music streams, and low latency using 48kHz sample rates. 96kHz audio streams are re-sampled to 48kHz in the rear channels only.
and it wouldn't be any different than using wires.
they're just rear surrounds for pete's sake, lol
a good idea, for those who cant run wires back there

do the speakers use batteries or something? if ur willing to spend so much just to avoid wiring, then this doesn't look too bad. hey, even the remote is wireless, isn't that neat.

Waste of money for $500, get Z-5500's for much less instead if your looking for some good priced speakers. Rear Wireless Speakers = Gimmick. You sacrafice sound quality on the rears........Odd how they don't tell you if it's using 900Mhz or 2.4Ghz Spectrum. Either way you're going to get interference
how bad can wiring be? if done right, you wont ever see the wires

Any word on a new high end set from Logitech? It seems like they are rolling out a lot of new upper tier stuff right now(g series gaming mice and keyboard), and I was hoping they might have a z-5500 succesor coming out soon.
I plan on picking up a 5500 setup soon, but if there's going to be another version soon(hopefully in 6.1/7.1 format, since a few other makers have high end extended surround sets out now), I'll wait.

I didn't notice a difference period in gaming with 6.1's and 7.1 I haven't tested out with Comp oriented speakers. If the cost is much higher then the Z-5500's, I don't think its worth it.
Wow I'm half-suprises half not that wireless speakers weren't even out til now...
I think they'd sound pretty damn good. Logitech makes good stuff, not chince crap.

wireless speaker set-ups arent always horrible, they get cracky and busted quickly if you dont turn them off at night (as each individual speaker usually needs a power outlet to actually work) those dont seem too bad...

So they do all require wires anyway? They arnt battery powered? I can only imagine the year bill in batteries for your speaker system. Spend $500 for the speakers and $800 for the batteries.

i was not saying that the speaker itself would suck, i am saying that you would never get good SQ with wireless, but at the same time, its logitech, and lets wait and see what wonders they bring to the table for us :D

Don't forget sound lag....specially w/ gaming.

logitech=poop sound
logitech=poop sound
thats one thing i will defend, lol
now yes, compared to the good ole Harman Kardon systems, or better yet the 50k Infinity Beta Systems, how do they sound? like poop, lol
but look at it this way, for 300 bucks, what can you realy get for HT? only DIY, and still not that much, becuase a decent reciever is 200-300 by itself.
i wont ever discredit HT, but the Z-5500's are some of the best bang for your buck. yes the lessers are not all that great. but show me a HT in a box system that even comes close the Z-5500 for the same price? and how much do you have to go up for the HT in a box to begin to compare? yeah, thats why its such a good deal, now i would never go around saying that the low end stuff is the best, becuase it aint. simple as that.
so just dont keep a closed mind about it. you realy get a steller deal for what you pay, and yes i know what good stuff sounds like, i just dont have a pocket book for it, lol

for the same class of pc speakers, i believe creative and klipsch do a much better job although they don't offer the same value or selection as logitech
logitech's bass is just too muddy, but that is just in my personal opinion
I've heard wireless speakers previously and I dont think it sounded all that bad. I sure didn't notice any difference between wireless and wired.
for music chaintech av710->100 dollar ebay reciever->100 dollar ebay bookshelf speakers >any computer speakers
for gaming headphones>all

i got my receiceiver for 180$...bookshelves for 60$ and my sub.....well, lets not talk about how much my subwoofer cost. My point is that spending 400$ on logitech speakers is ridiculous when much better speakers can be had for the same price range.

Exactly and that's why the Z-5500's are better for $200 instead. $500 is grossly ridiculous for those wireless one's. At that point go HT route...
show me the way then, i cant seem to find any decent hardware for those prices anymore, the harman kardon speaker deal died a long time ago, and its a real PITA to find good recievers for that cheap

for music yes. But can you get a decent 5.1 HT system for as cheap as the logitech ones?
yeah thats what i am getting at, i only have 300 to spend, and HT just aint feasible for me at that price

Yeah thats the whole point of the computer speaker market, if you could get a decent 5.1 home theatre set for like 300 bux then why would there be that much of a need for computer speakers.
To me the z-5450 are a waste because u still need power cables, so ur not really eliminating any cables. I think the z-5400 is the 5450's with wired rear speakers. So if you are interested in the 5450 it would be a lot more worth while going for the 5400's.
Cheers :D
Wireless speakers. Brilliant.
What if the neighbours buy the same ones?

the range is really limited i do believe. Like a few meters.

neighbors as in apartments, lol
i'm sure they have some kind of encryption that makes it so only certin speakers will work with a certin receiver.
some of you act like wireless=instant lag. witch is not true from my exp. from wireless networking to wireless controllers and wireless headphones, i have seen no increase in latency. i like the idea of wireless speakers, but its not worth that much of a premium IMO. if you're that worried cables that you need to spend $500 on a set of speakers, so be it. but i wouldn't expect alot of people to be that worried.
