View Full Version : Help - Memory Feels Slow (Patriot DDR PC3200) *PICS*
Hey all,
I purchased Patriot PC3200 XBLK 1GB (512MB x 2) Memory sticks for a dual channel setup. I finally installed it and was noticing a huge LAG in performance.
Memory Test 86+ was used to test any errors and it rans fine there. So I used CPU-Z and Sandra softwrae to benchmark. Here are the pics and please help why this supposedly great memory is lagging on my computer.

-Why is the "Efficiency" so low? My old Corsair was at 93%

I know mine will ran 2-2-2-5 DDR400 on AMD. yours shows 2.5-4-4-5 and I dont know if it is P4 or mobo. but try to set timing manualy to spec.see if works.
I'm not very familiar with P4 timings but I agree with Ochungry. I would try the spd timings as that should make a world of difference.

Try 1t command rate. Makes a big ol difference, then work the others down as far as theyl go.

where did you see he was running 2T?
Frankly the tRAS @ 5 is too low. for 2.5-4-4 should be ~ 8
Here are the results from the new timings:
Sandra:
Only 70% bandwidth efficiency?

CPU Z:
2-2-2-8

Now are these the best results I can get?

@ DDR400, probably.......what is your FSB? cant you overclock them at all and loosen the timings? That memory should be able to do 2.5-3-3-7 @ DDR550+

That looks about right for a P4 in dual-channel. In order to get into the higher 70% range you will have to turn on PAT.

PAT?
What if PAT doesn't want to be turned on? (Sorry, couldn't resist:))
What is PAT? Couldn't find that anywhere on my friend's Intel system. He wants to overclock but I need to know all this as I've been following it for some time.

On P4 mobo, PAT= Performance Acceleration Technology. A feature in BIOS to increase memory performance.
Edit: Also i think w/ 2-2-2-5 you could increase your FSB to 220-225.
just one notch at the time from 200 and find the limit. from there on it is a different ball game, requiring vcore, vdim, and timing change.
Oh, make sure Pat is turned on - couple of galsses of wine should do it.

turn on pat, make sure memory is in 1T mode as this will gain an incredible amount of performance. Make timings 2-2-2-5 and increase your FSB to 215mhz. See what the results are. I should expect about 5500+mb/s with 85% eff. Maybe even better..do it and let's see!
After stable at 215mhz for a couple of hours..move on up 5mhz at a time until about 225~230mhz. this is where you might have some boot probs, try increasing vdimm a little until stable and after 240mhz you might have to loosen timings to 2.5-3-3-7 or so... give it a shot at 215mhz first with 1T and PAT enabled.
I don't see 1t or PAT in the BIOS anywhere.

The 1T command should be under your memory setting. PAT could be there too or under video card section in your BIOS.

1T is always enabled on intels. Depending on your motherboard, PAT may also be refered to as GAT.

whats a good bandwidth efficiency percent to have? i have mine at 85% and i thought to myself "why not 100%" but i shrugged it off after hours and hours of finding the right timings. let me know, thanks

i was gonna say T1 isnt a option for intel.

DohDoh,
that sisSandra 70% mem efficiency is about right as the link below explains it.
also try using 2-2-2-5. I dont know if you have burn-in the ram yet, it will improve your ram's performance.
