I am going to try to build a briefcase mod.

I am worried about keeping it cool especially if i try to OC it...

This is what I came up with in lovely MSPaint....

That looks pretty good.
Maybe another fan on the right side for exhaust as well.

(You mean left? Or have 2 fans on the right)

Also, should I worry about the 0 airflow UNDERNEATH all the parts?

I wouldnt worry about the airflow underneath.

I mean an exhaust inbetween PSU and HDDs

Any suggestions on what fans to use?

I'm a sucker for pretty lights FYI :p

Well I would suggest Deltas for best cooling. You can also try some thrmaltake fans, which are also Highly recommended.

80, 92 or 120mm?

Whatever fits. Also, there's too much pressure inside that. Add another exaust fan.

Would 3 in 3 out be ok?

(Plus the CPU heatsink/fan and the video card fan)

Personally I think the out fans should be on top and the in fans should be on the side since heat rises. That would probably drop your temps by a few degrees.

ahh... so this is the briefcase mod you were talking about in the other thread.

Now that ive found the thread, i would recommend a couple of 120mm fans to replace some of the 80mms.

Maybe two 120s over the mobo area, and 1 over by the drives. Then use the side 80mm as exhaust.

points from someone that has already built it?

use a mini atx, and a mini PSU. it will help out alot, more exaust then intake and use a stock cooling fan and heatsink for the unit. Buy a motherboard that can automatically adjust the fan speeds, have one fan right behind the CPU for intake, make most of your fans exhaust... get the hot air out of there... passive exhausts dont work as well as everyone says.

Oh, Hamspiced...

I was wanting to know the dimensions and perhaps where you got your case?

Also: The mini ATX and PSU; Do they perform well?

i bought it on ebay about a year ago. 40 bucks or so.

the miniatx willb e fine and doesnt produce alot of heat. minipsu will be fine as space will be a problem.. the more space you take up the more heat you will generate.

If I were to attempt a briefcase mod, I would want it to look like a briefcase... (no fans). How about aluminum brief case, and attach heatpipes from the CPU to the case?

an ALL aluminum briefcase costs around 100-200$ minimum. the aluminum briefcases on e-bay are actually corkboard with aluminum paper stickied to it.

hey, heres what i made a while back...

the cooling is alright, the fan over the CPU is an intake and an exhaust over the PSU. only thing that worries me is the harddrives get a bit toasty (i have two taped togather, so thats half the problem)...they definately need some better cooling, maybe mounting them vertically and having a fan blow across them...dunno

have fun with that

one thing you really have to keepin mine is air pressure inside the case, if you have negative air pressure in the case (more fans, or less fans moving more cfm's) you will have problems because there is not enough air density to suck heat out of the components. You want a slightly positive air pressure in the case (maybe one more intake than exhaust, if you're using identical fans)

question...are you using a black attache style case like mine, or one of those aluminum toolchest cases frum walmart?
