One(x1) - BFG GeForce 7800 GTX OC / 256MB DDR3
~or~
Two(x2) - Asus GeForce 6600 GT / 128MB DDR3

Anyone here would tell you the 7800 is infact the harder performer.

It can beat both 6800GTs by like 5-10fps, maybe more.

Edit: Heck, even the BFG 7800GTX OC can probably beat 2x 6800GT Ultras in SLI, maybe on par, but then the 7800GTX would be much cheaper.

I ask becouse of this:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1237232&CatId=0

1 of these is around $500.00:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1466033&Sku=B52-7800

2 of these is around $500.00:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1226530&Sku=A455-7024

So in the first link, if the 2-6600's was close to being as fast as 1-7800, it would be like getting a free motherboard!

2x 6600GT= 6800GT
2x 6800GT=7800GT
2x 6800GT Ultra=7800GTX
2x 7800GT=Priceless

That was stupid, but yeah, it's almost accurate. But then, most of the times the single card can outperform the lower verisons, ie. 7800GTX outperforms 2x 6800GT Ultras.

And the eVGA 7800GTX KO Edition is the best pre-OCed 7800GTX card, it's also the most expensive one too, it's like $530? That's almost $70 away from the cheapest 7800GTX.

Actually a 490/1300MHz 7800GTX is FASTER than 2X 6800Ultras in SLI. Not to mention you get nifty tweaks like Transparency Antialiasing among others.

6800gt's in sli grab about 8500+ in benchies using 3dmark05 where as 1 7800gtx even oc'd can grab about what... 6k 7k?

I am really pondering about the 1 7800GT vs 2 6600GTs in SLI. Yeah, the benchies will favor the 7800, but in real world, you will not notice much, especially if you have you monitor set to 1024 x 768.

Then comes the cost approximately $300 for 2 6600Gts vs $400 for 1 7800GT and potentially $800 for 2 7800GTs (ouch)!

1. 2 7800's = Ownage
2. 1 7800 = Ownage of most systems, but the most hardcore (see #1)
3. 2 6800's = Great Performance, but can't touch either of the 7800's above
4. 1 6800 = Still very good performance but can't touch SLi 6800's
5. 2 6600's = fair to good performance, but can't match a 6800GT
6. 1 6600 = good performance, but starting to show it age to the enthusiast

They range in performance in the order presented above. This has been show through testing on this forum using benchmarks, and also real world gaming frame rates. I think most will agree with this assessment.

The "best" is a relative term, and mainly depends on how much you want to spend. If you want the very best #1 is it. There simply is not a higher performing setup.

Saying that, you have to have a system that can take advantage of it. If you want max FPS, and performance it takes a system with alot of CPU Power, Good RAM, a Good Motherboard, and you definitely cannot run a setup like that without a high quality PSU. Good Aftermarket cooling is also a plus. Stasis is the best for air, and they soon will be offering water cooling. The best bet would be a good maze 4 acetal if you wanted to go with water now.

That's about as complete of a post as I can make for somebody looking to buy the "best", but my "best" may not be your "best". You and your wallet have to be the judge of that. :)
