hello, my friend gave me a great idea of making a mod to the pc-67 case im gonna get in a few weeks. seeing i dont need the usb on the bottom, i thought id put a row of blue led's. but i couldnt think of what to have them do other then just light up. so i was wondering if someone knew how to make then sound activated, so they respond to sound. any idea's?
if anyone really knows alot about electronics, id like to have a few words with you, i have ALot of idea's, but im not sure about how to make them...
thanks

You could get the Clapper and somehow hook the LEDs up to it...

Once again I know I saw someone do something like this but I can't for the life of me remember where the heck I saw it. So basically this post is useless.

Why would it be useless? He's just looking for a little help. Best idea I can come up with is to modify a RS lightning ball or something similar to output through a led setup, without making it overly complicated.

It says that the post has expired and asks for a username and password.

I know a good bit about electronics, and am willing to offer advice. For your sound idea, you'll run into the problem that LEDs are basically digital. I'm not sure what you have in mind. If you are thinking to have more LEDs light up as more intense sound is applied, you will have to use an analog-digital conveter and and some latches. It's a pain to do, but it can be done. The easiest way to do this would be to buy a board created for the purpose. Well, I'm rambling. Just mail/icq me. it'll be easier.

If I unserstand typhoonmike correctly, he was commenting on the uselessness of his own post and intending no offense to the topic starter. :)

now this is a thought, at some auto shops and car radio stores, you can buy neon lights that light when the bass thumps hard,
that would be a neat mod for the case if somehow you could get it to work right....

I was going to suggest this. My friend is thinking about doing that. It waould look awesome on a computer case. I'll go find a link to such a thing.

The light has a pot on it to adjust sensitivity and this thing goes along with music, etc. doesn't take a big thump either, just talking will do it. Looks like a lightning show. I took the light apart and placed the bulb where I wanted it and put the controls up front where I can get to them.

An a similar but different topic, does anyone know where I can find info on building something to drive a VU meter? I have 2 needle-style gauges here that would look sweet in the bezel of my case :D

could i see a pic? Ok, here's a not too good pic.I took the light apart and soldered new wires to the ends of the neon tube and covered it with some shrink tubing. I ran the controls (a switch and a pot to adjust the sound level) into the area above my cd drive. The board is only bout an inch wide and 2 inches long and has a microphone built onto it. My window is drying right now or I would put it on, still getting it together after paint job. The light flashes with sound such as music or just talking. I am going to mount the controls on an empty bay panel, but haven' t gotten to it yet. I liked this one so much I am going to add a red one on the bottom the same way. It looks pretty neat when playing a game or playing music, kinda like lightning (specially with the soundblaster startup wave.) I will post a complete pic when I finish up. The sound activated lights are 18 bucks at Auto Zone. For my fellow G'boro man here too!
