the title says it all...

what is the best video card for under $100? i currently have a voodoo4 and am very pleased with it. i got a new XP 1800+, and i figure, why not, ill upgrade my video card too... i'm liking the voodoo5, becuase its just a powerful card. (and under $100, and FSAA).

but, what about a geforce? can i get a GOOD one that will outperform the voodoo5? thanks.

Not for under 100 you cant. The voodoo5 paired with the athlon 1800 is about on par with geforce2 pro which prolly runs over 100.

But remember, if you buy a voodoo5, its pretty well a short term investment as 3dfx is gone and there wont be much in the way of drivers and such.

I run a voodoo5 myself, its a fine card, the AA is top notch. Your probablly better saving for one of the new raidens coming out. Unless you can get a V5 cheap enough. DOnt even consider the GF2 mx cards, there as slow as a tnt2.

well, ATI isnt an option. i hate all ATI cards ever since my experiences owning them... long story, wont go into it here, but the hardware is great, but support and drivers can, well, you get the idea.

i'm not an extreme performance geek either. i dont want 200fps in a game. thats not cool to me. i want it to look good, and the FSAA looks amazing.

i thought a voodoo5 would beat a geforce2 hands-down?

and as for driver issues, i have found NUMEROUS places on the internet that are developing drivers for 3dfx still. a lot are ex-3dfx employees... drivers are an issue, but not that big of one. there will ALWAYS be something new that will make the other thing obselete.

What are you plannin to do with your video card....?
Gaming?

If so I would recommend something like GeForce GTS or MX...
Both great cards espically the MX for its price..

look into either a Kyro II or a geforce 2 gts....the gts runs just over 100, but is well worth the moola

what is going on here in Greece??? :(

They have over 210$ (the other manufacturers cards prices are normal)!!!!

And if you don't believe me tell it i will give you some URL's to chek it out

at 100$ cost my V3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also the same problem belongs and with HFS their are too much ovepriced :( (e.g. CAK38 for 90$ USD!!!!!!)

I'll trade one of my V5 for your V4 and some cash! I want to make sure the v4 works! is this correct if so send me a PM and we can figure out details. I haven't even overclocked this one so you may get even better results! let me know if you want to trade!

Best bang for your buck is a 32 ddr Radeon made by ATI. There hare no driver issues with this card the 2 d video quality and dvd playback is the best bar none. I own a Radeon 64 ddr vivo and it is great , have had no issues with drivers.

ATI has come a long long way and it is hands down the best card for the amount of money you want to spend severely whooping a Geforce 2 MX card of any flavour and performing on par with a Geforce 2 GTS card.

Forget the obsolete stuff Radeon is it my man, and as Funnyperson 1 said Kyro is a choice as well.:)

Get the Inno3D GeForce2 MX400 AGP or PCI

I am running it with a K6-3 550Mhz, and Detenator XP drivers. Runs ANY game beautifully. And its only 70 bux or so.

hum... i have just such a long history with 3dfx :-)

had the first monster, second monster, SLI voodoo2, voodoo3, now voodoo4 ;-)

i will see how my voodoo4 performs with the 1800+. like i said, im not looking for 200+fps. i just want to play games smooth (anti aliasing helps out so miuch too), and DVD's.

i also do MAD graphics too... a good video card helps.

NO NO NO , do not buy a Geforce 2 MX200, if you read posts of those that own a Geforce 2 MX200 card they are all unhappy, it is true piece of crap.

Your best bang for the buck is the ATI Radeon 32 ddr ( hack it Zuck Gou:) can fill you in there), thats a fact. It can be overclocked and it will outperform any Geforce 2 MX200 or MX400 card.

My opinion is buck up and get a radeon 64 ddr vivo or an msi 831 geforce 2 gts w tv out

Cisco Kid

you are making it more complicated than your choice is.....;)

ugh, i dont need tv out.

and im not overclocking my video card. from what i understand, you can gain a whole 5fps. like i said before, not looking for that... i just want it to run things well. dont need the highest frame rates out there.

if you must go geforce DO NOT GET THE MX-200 it gets beaten by a Voodoo 3.......an Mx-400 is pretty decent, but for 25 dollars more get a gts which will better than twice the performance......if you must stick below a 100 i pick the RADEON 32mbddr(amazing 2d quality, gts 3d performance level), and above 100$ a GF2PRO(darn good 3D, overclocks in many cases to gf2 ultra speeds)......

You gotta listen to Cisco and Funny cause they are telling you the truth but you dont seem to be listening :)

You've said yourself that crazy FPS don't matter to you.
Therefore you want good FPS with great quality, correct?
Then your obvious choice is a Radeon. (LE-32DDR-64DDRVIVO)
It'll give you really good FPS, and great colors and 2d/3d picture quality.

A Geforce card(GTS +) will give you more FPS in a few rare cases (in 32-bit Radeon wins). It's a raw FPS card. If you want that, then get it. But you dont :), so the Radeon is your card.

Other than that a KyroII would be a good choice, or even a Matrox G450 if your into a bit of graphics, but its not a gaming card at all.

***the driver issues with a Radeon were never really big in the first place, but after being out for so long, there are no more huge issues with the Radeon series***

hum, but it really doesnt sound like im gaining too much over my current video card i guess. i just have had ati in the past, and i dont like ati driver support. even if these particular drivers are great. i agree that geforce is a pure fps card... that's why i dont like geforce too much.

maybe ill just wait and see how my voodoo4 performs with my new chip.

thanks everyone. sorry if i didnt seem to be receptive, im just really picky with my choices.

A Voodoo4 is still a nice card. It has really nice picture quality too. You should be fine with all the newest games for a while.
