I hope this is in the right area of the forums but...

I've been running on a Tbird 1.3 for about two or three years now, and I recently decided it's time for a change. I bought new memory (Kingston HyperX Pc2700 512mb) and a new processor (Barton Xp 2800+) and I'm having some issues with them.

I have an Apogee 7vjl (chaintech). My problem is.. when I set the cpu clock to 166 to run at the appropriate 2.08ghz my computer locks up, or restarts.

My friend says the restarting is a memory issue. The first time I changed the clock speed to 166 it almost loaded windows, it got to a black screen with a cursor on it.

My motherboard has jumpers on it for FSB, you can't change it in BIOS. Now in my manual, JP3 is the jumper for FSB. It says you can only set it to 100 and 133. But in the manual, and on the website it says it will run 200, 266, and 333 ( 100 133 and 166 right?).

I just need to know exactly what I have to do to get my processor from 133 and 1666mhz to 166 and 2008mhz.

ps. my multiplier settings dont have a 12.5.... they go up to 12, and default. whenever i have it on default, sometimes my apogee overclocking utility says it's 12.5... but I don't know if I trust it.

Did you upgrade your mobo as well? Older mobo had chipsets that were not able to run at 166mhz, even if you force to run at that clock the system becames stable because the pci\agp clocks are not in spec, here is what happens when you increase the fsb on a mobo that doesn't have a pci\agp lock or a devider, the clock for the pci and agp slots also increase and the boards on those slots can not take the higher clock speed and that causes the whole system to become unstable. On another note, eventhough you don't have the option to increase your multi higher then 12 doesn't mean that the mobo doesn't support it, some mobo will only support 12 and lower multi while others will support 12.5 and higher and better boards are able to use all of the mutlies.

What BIOS ver are you running? My wife has that same mobo with a XP2500 and with the 3.0 BIOS it wasn't stable, but after flashing to the 5.0 it runs just fine. You also might want to make sure your PSU is up to par.

I can't figure out how to update these BIOs, all the download gives me is a bin file, and I got Award Flash too, but I still have no idea ... lol

instrustions should be on teh website...its a bit different between boards and bios mfr's. there should be some sort of readme or manual to do it on the mfr's website where u got the file from.

This is what you generally do, although I would download a .pdf file of your mobo's instructions to double check.

Link is kinda obsolete but the format is still the same:
