Hello

I need help!

I have a Linksys BEFSR41 router and three pcs to run on a network.

What I need is an easy way to setup network and to keep it up and going.
First of all I want to share my dvds, mp3 and files without looking for the network all the time. How do I assin an ip address to each pc? I have a dsl connection if that helps. Someday I would like to setup internal web page for all of this but thats another question for a later time.

Any suggestions are welcome. Please help me.

Hello

Someone has to have an idiots guide for this. I have been trying to get this working for a year now.

Thanks Fordman

Thats a lot of work to explain, but the guide is probably the best place to start.

Depending on which O.S's are on the 3 PC's, the router will determine the IP's, all you have to do is make sure certain settings are in place. All of which can be found in the manual.

"Mapping a Network Drive" would be the best workaround to get around searching your network for specific folders.

Get to know your router, and what its capable of. Its amazing what you learn just by getting familiar with it.

Have you read the networking sticky?

Its very simple in XP, more so than 98. For a simple network like yours you just need to run the Network setup wizard in the connections window and it should be good to go. If you can access the internet through your router, your pc's already have IP addresses. You can right click on just about any folder and share it.
