ok basically im looking for a decent dvd burner, things that are important to me are RELIABILITY, The Software bundle (looking for legit burning program, and legit dvd codec), and i guess the price ( under 150-100). Dual layer would be nice too.

BenQ DW1640.
NEC 3540
plextor is sposed to be the best.
I have had the newest sony's and the NEC 3540 or whatever it is and I like the sony's better.
NEC's are awesome drives. They're very solid. So, if you're looking for reliability, you bet your ass they are.

With the current models out the BenQ 1640 and the NEC 3540 are considered the best drives. They burn all media well, have great user support and there is modded firmware available. Plextor makes a high quality drive but is way overpriced.

Ditto.
Have both the NEC and Plexwriters here & would have to agree.

I followed the general consensus and looked the benq and nec models at newegg. Both of them seemed like quality drives. but in the reviews people complained about poor software bundles. so ive decided to buy the oem drive and then buy an accompanying burner program. Which program would be a good choice?
latest plextor is the same drive as benq 1640; 1640 is the best right now, i am afaid :P
1640 oem comes with nero express, so, if you are not very familiar with burning software that should serve you well as a starting point.

I would go with Nero Burning Rom. It is easy to use and I never had any issues with it.
