Yea nice clocking 630 golden1717, Ive managed to get mine at 4Ghz stable but I think it can go more I only need little more volts on northbridge. Tried to bood windows at 4125Mhz but my board cant handle more than 270FSB w/o mods so it restarts itself on the welcome screen.

:welcome: to the forums. What chipset is that Abit? It makes a difference as certian mobos droop more than others. As a general rule most guys are using (as well as myself) 1.45v **actual, NOT bios** for air cooling.
On my P5WD2 1.45v = ~1.47v on my AS8 it took as high as 1.58v to get the proper reading

Try over 1.5v. But keep an eye on the true vcore with each adjustment. I hear the i925s tend to droop by about .75 from BIOS ~ Actual

Nice overclock. You'll find lots of good info here, this is where I learned to how to OC :)
I'm hoping to get a 6xx series CPU next year and probably a motherboard with the 975 chipset (leaving myself open to upgrade with SLI, maybe a Conroe.) Looking forwards to 4ghz :)

I actually have a 630 running around 280'ish Mhz FSB on air. I think I could do 1mb SuperPi at 290Mhz, but that was it.
I believe my 630 was from china. Never had a china chip before. If anyone is intersted, let me know and i'll post my screenies tomorrow.
Also, what do you guys consider an OC? Post / Windows / 1mb SuperPi / 3dMark / 32mb Super Pi / Prime 95 24hours?

Congradulations that's an insane o/c!
ok folks.. Sorry for the delay. I have been swampped.
Here is my OC on the 630 on Abit's AW8 mobo.
I typically do not run at 4.2 Ghz, because of the fsB has to be 280. Which forces me to use a mem divider of 3:4, and run my memory at 750's
I run my 630 at 275 w/ a mem divier of 3:5, which gives me DDR917 @ 4-4-4-10. I rather scarifice a few CPU Mhz, for faster ram speed.
Ok.. here is my screen shot. Let me know if you folks have any questions:

4.2ghz @ 1.47v actual with a 630 is still great. The fact that it is a China chip kind of confirms what we all though...the China chips would get better with time.

Let me konw if you guys want anythign else. This cheap is VERY sweet. The only down fall, is that I really wanted a CPU to hie 300+ FSB. I am trying to get my Memory running at over 1000Mhz if possible. For some reason, the 1:2 dividier is only aviaable if you boot at 533 NB strap. But i can't boot. Heh -
That's the last time I knock the chips from China.
Strat
Yup.. this chip from China is pretty sweet :)
This 630 makes my 550 and 561J look pittyful. I might have to get rid of them and get another 6xx CPU.
I am really trying to hit 300FSB, so I can get some 1000Mhz DDR2. Its just sounds so nice to say your 1GB of Ram is running 1Ghz :)
And the nice things about this chip, its so cool. I am not sure if its worth the headache to put watercooling on this CPU. I really doubt I can get much more from it. I bump vCore up to like 1.5, and didn't seem to help OC much.
Does any have any suggestion on how to get 300Mhz FSB? Wow.. 300x15 = 4.5Ghz.
Does anyone know the max vCore on Air? I may playaroudn w/ it a bit tomorrow.
SAD
Edit.
just read a review, that shows they got the 630 to 300FSB on an ASUS 955 motherboard. THey have voltage up to 1.6v Vcore. Hmm.. I am tempted to try this out tomorrow. I will let you fine folks know the results.
SAD
Its just sounds so nice to say your 1GB of Ram is running 1Ghz1100Mhz is even better (see sig and CPU-Z verification) :)
I was debating 630-650 and now me thinks 630-640. If unlock is not going to work properly on anything less than a $400 660 no matter what, the default multi might as well be as close to 14x as possible and your 630 is looking good so far.
What is the max you got on that 561 ES? I can't believe a 630 OCs better.
Ross,
Well.. my 550 craps out around less then 4.1 Ghz. And my 561J aroudn 4.2. My 561j is more recent. I haven't had a chance to really overlock it hard yet.
Actualy looking back at my OC worksheet.. it seems i haven't push much juice into these chips at all. I didn't break 1.5v.
Right now I have my 660 @ 1.575v running 32mb SuperPi @ 4.3 Ghz.
also, I ran both on 915 and 875 DDR1 motheroboard.
Time to put both on my 955 DDR2 motherboard and give it a whirl.
What is the safe vCore for 5xx? I happen to have my 540 right here. I'm going to pop it in after this superpi run is done.
I'll report back a bit later.
SAD
Edit -
I ran a successful Superpi 32mb @ 4.3 ghz, but the time was like 30 min. I guess the CPU was throttling due to heat.
here is the validation link in CPUz - http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=40725
i was able to get 4.4 ghz, but couldn't do much with it.
As for my 540, I can only get it to less then 4.2Ghz on air. Maybe its just me. I will probably have to try to find this cpu a nice home. let me know if anyone is intersetd.
Oh, those procs should do much better in the 955 board. 915s are fairly crappy for high OCs and 875s never really were designed for power-hungry Prescotts. In my 925XE board, my 550 never really made it over 4.0-4.1 "stable" on water. On the 955 board, it would run 4.2 all day long no questions asked...totally different animal.
I never pushed more than 1.50V through mine on air or water and really 1.60V is my limit on phase. I have tried higher, but pretty much anything over 1.65V is less stable. The 600s are another story with that. I am not speaking from experience, but I've seen people jack up the Vc's on them with less cooling. If they run that much cooler than 500s, maybe that's OK if your temps are OK. I'd probably not jack it up anymore if you're on air, especially if you are already hitting thermal throttling.
If I didn't want to move up to a 6xx, I might take that 561J off your hands :) I'd almost be tempted to play with the 540, but I just actually gave a 540 away not long ago, so I don't think I want to go back to that. Just FYI, I don't know if the mods will pinch you on it or not, but you can't offer anything in the forums for sale...it has to be in the Classified section (which you need 100 posts to get in). Just letting you know ;)
Ross,
I have no idea why my 500's are not doing that well. These 600's do ROCK. I may pick another up to play with.
I wonder how the 630 / 660 Costa Rica chips are doing.
Thanks for hte heads up on the sale thread thing. i am trying to get to a 100 post.. but its taking time :P
SAD
I know the 600s are much better, that's why I want one to play with :) The highest 630 clock I've seen is 5.4GHz...probably dice or phase. It's #1 slot on CPU-Z Top 10 for 3.0GHz procs. Actually the top 4 are all 630s and 5.1GHz or higher and the slower ones (4.6GHz or less) are probably just air/water cooled. All the 640s in the top 10 are 4.5-4.6 and I am guessing that's all air/water. Granted, not everyone uses CPU-Z or verifies, but the top 10 are probably pretty good indicators. Anyone bothering it OC to the max is probably going to verify for proof.
660 is a totally different animal and more than 2x the cost of a 630 or 640. Since I will be looking to upgrade to 975 board/Cedar Mill (65nm, single core) when they are released in a couple of months, I don't think I am going to spend the $$ for a 660 just to use it for that time. I was thinking about a 650, but since the multi doesn't really work on anything less than a 660, I think I am better off just getting a lower default multi (which happen to be cheaper procs :)) and have at it...
Ross,
Thanks for the breakdown :)
Well.. i'm waiting to get prices back on the 600's. Based on that I will see what I will get.
Also I have potentially sweet deal on a dothan :) My 1.6 Dothan 533 doesn't OC to my content. :P
SAD
Hehe. Some people love Dothan. Rather than going that route, I'll wait for Cedar Mill or maybe Presler. If they run substantially cooler, it may be the first time I seriously consider a multi-core proc.
If you have a hook-up on 600s, let me know :D

i like the dothan. they run nice and cool. Perfect for an HTPC Setup :) Actually i kinda want and HTPC / Gaming setup.
The only thing i don't like about the dothan is that i have to use the ASUS mobo and adapter.
i would like a 'TRUE' dothan mothboard, but they cost too much.
As for the 600's.. my prices may not be that good :P
SAD
Dang! I made the mistake of buying a 630 Costa Rica today ;)
All the 640s they had were China, so I thought a 630 Costa Rica would've been a safer bet. Yeah, some China procs are doing very well, but I still have that whole stigma about them because they've sucked historically. Why didn't I get the 650 then? I figured if the multi doesn't "really" work, the lower default multi would be better for FSB. Anyway, maybe I was expecting too much and maybe I just got a weak proc, but 4.6GHz "stable" (ie. completes PCMark04) on phase with all kinds of Vc just seems crappy given 4.2 on air for SAD.
It will run 4.5 relatively easily, but it scales horribly after that. Even with 1.65Vc and -42C evap temps, it won't bench PCMark04 at 1 FSB over 4.6GHz  Disappointed :(
Ross,
Dude.. that sucks about your chip :( Well.. maybe youwill have better luck w/ the next one :)
This is actully my first china chip. And i'm pretty happy with it so far.
I am acutally thinking of ordering a 2nd 630 to play with. They are so cheap compared to the higher 650 and 660.
SAD
Ahem, I have a nice 630 Costa Rica that I will sell you if you want another one ;) LOL.
This is what I get for thinking I'll be lucky and not have to spend mad $$ on a proc proven to OC like crazy. I think the worst 660 on stock air cooling with default Vc would do better than this 630 on phase :bang head

I've also had very good luck with a 5504B607 chip. Default voltage is 1.3v and I ran 2 instance of Prime95 while looping 3DMark2001 for 24 hours at 4GHz with 1.3v. No lockups or errors at all. This is probably the best chip I've tested so far. I'm limited to 266 FSB so I can't try it any higher.
I also had pretty good luck with three 5504B610 chips. They all had default voltages of either 1.2875v or 1.3v and would boot into Windows at 4GHz but failed Prime95 in under a minute. But then again another 0.1v should solve that problem.
5503Bxxx chips have also done pretty well although I did get one dud that would not boot into Windows at 1.3875v and did a little bit better at 1.4625v but still not stable.
It would be nice if people could post their FPO/Batch codes regardless of whether it was a good o/c or bad one.
yup.. this CPU is sweet. I'm thinking of making my 24/7 @ 4.1 Ghz :) I have been seeing insane speeds w/ the higher end 600 series CPU. I am looking to see Ross's results, before I hope on board.
