With nForce4 based motherboards, each 16x slot, when running duel cards, would get 8x speed each.
Ok, I got it.
A Intel 945 based motherboard, the Epox 5LDA+GLI, provides a true 16x slot and a 4x slot; this approach apparently may provide even better performance than the dual 8x approach.
Huh?
Just install your first 16x card into the a 16x slot, then all you have to do is file the end off of 4x secondary slot so that your second 16x card can fit into it!
