That's a hard question. IMO if you just want to upgrade without any overclocking you will be happy with any brand of 7800. Otherwise I would say go with a good name brand. However, it is kind of luck of the draw with overclocking. It is altogether possible you could pay extra for a name brand card and get no overclockablity.
In my case I want to overclock and so paying extra for an EVGA card is worth it to me. :)

Make sure you check out the clock speeds. The XFX 7800gtx I looked up on the egg is 490/1300 while the xpertvision version is 430/1200. As long as those are the same cards you are looking at you are paying some for performance for the XFX. My previous statments were for cards with the same core/memory timings.

The short answer is yes and no. Some people want to overclock, some just want a good stock system.
Since you want to overclock I wouldn't go with the xpertvision. Definatly go with a a name brand such as the aforementioned EVGA. I have heard good things about the XFX version as well but have had less personal experience with the brand.
Once again keep in mind that NO card is garunteed to overclock at all. It's all luck of the draw.

I've owned eVGA before and for some reason like them a lot. The funny thing is that I've already convinced myself to buy XFX the next time I buy nVidia again. Their prices are awesome, as well as their insane stock overclocks, and package deals! Get XFX!

HEHEHE hey bu Xpertvision is the brand that my 9600le is, thier cheap out on the fan and heat sink so thats why they come cheaper. Xpertvision has a funny little slogan of 'anything else can go to hell', i have no idea bout ur 7800gtx but if its anything like my 9600 it'll have not very good stock cooling.

You did the right thing, save money whenever possible. :D It reall is just luck of the draw. I just got the eVGA 7800GT and it clocks like crap on stock voltage but give it a little juice and you release the beast! I did the mem vmod and at 2.2v (stock 2v) the memory hits 1337mhz. That's pretty good considering that default for this card is 1070mhz.
Gonna do the vcore mod tommorrow when I get my 3k VR. At default volts the card will only do 5mhz over stock settings on the core and 10mhz on the memory. I'll be aiming for the 500mhz mark on the core anything extra will be icing on the cake. :santa:
I guess I should update my sig soon.

As far as graphics card go, they are all really the same unless some company uses a non-standard pcb. Last time I got one of those was an msi 9800xt. Had to be rma'd twice. The second time I kept my money and ordered another card,

Hey dude, I got the volt mod done and the core is now sitting at 530mhz with 1.5v. I may be able to lower it a bit as I only just started testing and I haven't found my sweet spot yet. :) Does anyone know what the max voltage for these cards is? ( I'm on water )

I have a couple of friends who only buy eVGA. Their warranty and trade-up programs rocks. I've never heard anything bad about XFX either. I'm personally going to get a 7800GT from one of those brands.

eVga Step-up program is offered to original owners who have recently purchased a retail card. Basically, it protects the owner in case new stuff is out. The owner will have 90 days to register (date of purchase) for Step-up. eVga will give you what your current video card is worth and you pay the difference. There are many people who bought the 7800GT and now want the 7800 GTX KO. It will cost around $180 more to get the GTX KO but it all depends on how much the 7800 GT cost. Here is the Step-up (http://www.evga.com/stepup/default.asp?switch=3) information.
The nice thing I found is if you have purchased a 7800 card with a game bundle, you can keep the game :p
