NEW YORK Sep 16, 2005 — Couch potato, thy name is Suresh. Suresh Joachim broke the Guinness world record for the longest time spent watching TV. He finished Friday with 69 hours and 48 minutes.

After passing the previous record of 50 hours and 7 minutes Thursday, Joachim continued until shortly after 7 a.m. Friday morning (EDT).

Joachim did his TV viewing in the lobby of WABC-TV as part of the "Guinness World Record Breaker Week" on the syndicated "Live With Regis and Kelly."

All well and good. But does Guinness let you go to the fridge during commercials?

He probably has a container to pee in but I wouldn't know about poopin' . Diaper, maybe? I want to beat his record. He probably took a wee portable television to maintain his status.

Oh my god.

His eyes will be pretty badly screwed now..focussing all that time non stop.

Anyway, the world record for staying awake is at 110 hours. Way to go!

I get bored of watching t.v. after an hour..unless there is something good on. These days, I rarely t.v.
Rules

Rules for the couch potato honor, as stipulated by Guinness, allow for a 5-minute break every hour and a 15-minute break every 8 hours. The viewer must otherwise be constantly looking at the screen.

Joachim, who lives in Toronto but hails from Sri Lanka, now holds more than 16 Guinness records, including the longest duration balancing on one foot (76 hours, 40 minutes) and bowling for 100 hours. He does it, he says, to raise awareness of suffering children.

Wait...he didn't even break 70 hours?

God, I could break his record! Thats 2 hours less than 3 days of TV.

I'd have to have some DVD's, Anime, and Other stuff i like because actuall TV programs would get boring, Especially after like 3am when there is only infomercials on. But there is ALWAYS history channel!

But that wouldn't be TOO hard to break. And they give you a 5 min. break ever hour. and 15 min. break every 8 hours....wouldn't be to hard honestly

If they let me use my video server, I probably would be able to flush his record down the drain.

Alright, it's time to get ahold of Guinness and book us some appointments. If a man can balance one foot for 76 hours shurely you can sit on your arss for 70 while watching NFL or something.

I just checked the guinness web site. They have no record for surfing the 'net. That could be a record that anyone of us could go for.

A case of Bawls, big pack of Snickers Almond, carton of Camels and a pee jar..

Hehe (hint hint)imagine if I was a Team 32 member, and used that as a reason to set a surfing record... The ultimate folding plug.

as far as a surfing the net record, I could do days without end.
It would be something like a TV commercial I once saw:

voice on computer: "You have come to the end of the internet, Please go back and start over.."

Surfing Dude: Looks around the room, then "Click--Click" starts over...

My wife thought that was me....

Well, I used to go to gaming cons and stay awake for three days. The formula that I used comes in three parts:

A "big gulp" cup with ten tablespoons of instant coffee filled with jolt for the caffiene and a shot of buttermilk so you don't rip your stomach lining in half.
Lots of bottled water so you do not dehydrate from the caffiene.
Many power bars. Yes they taste like asphalt but you certainly do not need to use the toilet when you eat scientifically perfect food.

Also, on the shameless folding plugs, you have done well young padwan. But you should know that when Skip owned the forums and you could buy custom ranks, I was known as the “shameless folding plugger”.

Getting a plug into the forums is always creative. But taking it to the next level would be inspired (blatant “Dead Poets Society” reference). You need to include the following:

What do you mean about plugging? Yes I fold all the time now, but it must mean something more then that.

if you think you can beat that record, go for it! I dont think drugs or even caffine may be allowed though

Plugging is finding ways to mention folding in threads outside of the folding forum. That used to be something of a game we did in the early days of the forums.

Myth Busters do not Rock!

I hate them, they use the most unscientific methods and are hit and miss.

the one show they did to disprove the myth of Open windows while driving burns more fuel then having the A/C running.

the goal was to disprove said myth, so they went out and got the most unareo dynamic SUV's and tested them around a track.

so after they claimed that it was just a myth, if they took say a Pontiac Grand AM and did the same test they would come up with different results, and again an even more aerodynamic car.

sorry for going off on this rant, but that show really irks me.

Malpine Walis

Well yes, the most that anyone can prove in that case is what is true for that given car. There are too many variables to keep track of. Take a brand new anything right off the showroom floor and it will probably perform the same as an identical car from the same brand dealer in the next town. Now take two old but otherwise same cars and repeat the test. I would be surprised if you found the same numbers this time.

However, when they get an experiment right, then they most certainly do rock.

areodymanics dont matter under 50mph

then why do sprinters shave there head?
why do cyclists have specially shaped helmets?

EDIT:
Another thing that erked me with the Myth Busters

When they rebuilt there dummy, they wanted to use a material that would break like bones, to test the material they used a heavy weight to compress it, until it broke, so they chose a material that had the same compression breaking point as bone, but when the dummy is in an accident he is not getting compressed it is getting smashed, and it is that force they should have been testing not the sheering force.

mythbusters is as much comedy entertainment as anything else, i don't think it's really about scientificness (is this a word?)
