Under a ceiling.
I'm recommending the parts to him, rather. And I would like to get some suggestions from you. His budget is $1,000, but I think it's somewhat flexible. The most he plays is American's Army, if I'm correct. Thanks in advance.

EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra $103.00
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Dual Core Processor $349.00
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300GB w/16mb cache $128.00
eVGA GeForce 6800 GT $289.00
Forton AX500-A $71.07
Corsair 2x512MB Value Ram $90.00

Total: $1030

OR, you can drop down to a 6600GT and get 2x1GB of value ram instead, all depends, get the 6800GT for better gaming, get the 2GB of ram for better of everything else.

The above mentioned system looks good, but you could change that diamondmax 10 to 2 of these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822145082 (eek, price went up $10)

The transfer rate on those drives is incredible.

Also, you might consider getting 1x 1024mb of ram, which makes it very easy to upgrade later on. I recently built a pc for a friend with only 1 stick, and the lack of dual channel was unnoticable.

Also #2, if you dropped down to a 3000+, you could go with a DFI and a 7800gt/gtx. Just an option. 7800 is probably overkill.

Well I think a 3200+ venice would suit him better because he isn't doing anything too processor intensive. He could use this money for either better ram (only if he's overclocking heavily and wants 1:1) or save his money and get better peripherals.

That looks really yummy! And I'll ask about how he wants the system exactly and follow your advice, Yuriman. Thank you for the suggestions.

Well, if he's only going to playing like 1 or 2 games, you don't even need a 7800GT/GTX. X2s would work better for less gaming, because it's really useful in multitasking and a large variety of applications. Also it's a lot more future proof, as future games/applications will benefit from dual cores greatly.

All just depends on much gaming he actually wants, and if gaming performance is a big issue in it.

Well, if he's going to be OCing, go for the 3000+, since both the 3000+ and 3200+ can get to 2.7ghz on air. By saving that money, you can probably move up to 2GB of ram, or maybe get a nice LCD for him.
