is there a way I can switch to XP Home Edition from Professional Edition without losing anything or burning anything to disc (I dont have a burner, just a DVD-rom)

Files and Settings Transfer Wizzard. May want to check that out, may or may not help you, I don't know much about it since I've never used it. It's under System Tools.
