looks as if it was just speculation. This article being written back in april, we would think some light has been spread. As of now, amd stays ddr1 and intel goes ddr2. Have not seen any press reports from amd saying there going rambus.

well it could be behind the reasoning for Intel wanting to buy rambus.

AMD has already stated that they will be going to DDR2 with their M2 Socket starting next year.

Its been common knowledge that AMD is going to DDr2 next year. IIRC isn't RAMBUS owned by intel?
Nope. They used to have a tight relationship with Intel, no longer.

M2 is going DDR2 you can be sure of that.
There's simply no other choises than DDR2.
Only few mfgs. have working prototypes of DDR3. DDR3 has no commercial applications. First it will start appearing on graphic cards, after that comes system memory.
XDR on the other hand has been a prototype for a long time, and will likely stay that way. AMD knows the risk is not worth taking, they'd be dependant on a limited amount of ram mfgs.

So do you think it is a lesser risk to go DDR2 instead of XDR since DDR3 is already decided for 2007? Why would anyone want to buy somthing that gives not much improvement and will short lived less than a year?

That is some sweet ram. You could have a cpu running 300HTT and ram at 1.5GHz standard or HTT500 and ram at 4GHz. How would DDR3 be any better?
