Hard Drive noise, worries or just paranoid?

Well, lately since my jump to smp, I've noticed one of my hard drives, which one I do not know, seems to sound like it is spinning back up once every 2-3 hrs., like it had turned off, when the computer has always been on. both are serial ata (150) drives, maxtor diamond max 9 plus. The reason I asked is that last time i heard a similar noise the drives died. And I am not under warrenty anymore so.

Check the power settings like karl pell suggested and make sure it is not Windows powering down the drive OR the BIOS. If neither is the case, then I would defintaly run the Diagnostic software on all of those drives ASAP and make backups ASAP.

I agree. SMP rigs can be quite the power houses.
