View Full Version : XP 1600+ in my A7V Classic- a no brainer

Flashed to 1008, popped off the old Golden Orb and wired it to the back of the case (new bios needs to see the fan speed- stock fan on my new MCX370 won't talk to the motherboard)-fix that later. Out came the Duron 650, in goes the 1600+ with Arctic Silver, and awaay we go. Glitched on some piece of software at the end of boot, and it was time for a housecleaning, so rather than hunt it down, just started fresh with a new Windows load. Runs smooth as can be at 1123 (10.5 X 107), and sure kicks butt over the old duron. Santa's waiting for all the new 266A boards to come out and work out a few kinks before jumping in with the DDR...
thought you guys would like to hear about it..

Happy Trails..

Congrats on the new CPU. Looks as though there a little bit of a pain to unlock but they're worth it IMHO. Happy clocking!

Thanks..
Little update for what it's worth.. though the bios info I found claimed it looked for the fan, there was an option to enable/disable that feature that I overlooked. I unplugged the orb, and it still boots and runs fine- As for unlocking this baby, I think I'll be content with pushing the 10.5 multiplier to 1.7gig or better with the fsb of a fresh motherboard and some fast ddr in a couple months- that's a lot of scoot for my $133.00....unless of course I happen to meet a 2 inch tall unemployed diamond cutter with a couple of extra arms and nothing better to do.. :D

I'm pretty tempted to get an xp and drop it into my abit kt7a board. I know they say it's not supported. But I've seen a couple screen caps with the xp running and sse running n/p

How is the stability of that machine? with your classic mobo?

theflycore,

I'm 101% with you on what you just said, I too will eventually want to throw in an XP processor to see what happens. I'm sure maybe a little voltage will fix the problem :D

I'm gonna wait thou for a 2GHz Athlon processor!

XP1800+ = 1533MHz
XP1900+ = 1600MHz
XP2000+ = 1667MHz
XP2100+ = 1733MHz
XP2200+ = 1800MHz
XP2300+ = 1866MHz
XP2400+ = 1933MHz
XP2500+ = 2000MHz

If there is an XP2500+, thats gonna be the baby that I waist my $ on throwin into my KT7A :D

cheers!

The XP is rock solid in our A7V- could probably push the fsb considerably more with the ram we're running, but haven't fussed with it beyond 107. Your Abit board is supposed to support the XP , but only if it's ver 1.3+. Not sure what the changes in the newer versions were that supposedly made a difference, but nevertheless, they are showing completely different bios for the 1.3+ versions of the board. Perhaps it would run, but not enable SSE-? I find it hard to believe that that the KT7A wouldn't have a bios written to support the palomino core- even the new Durons use it. I'm sure that's why Asus bothered to write one for the original A7V- being a 200 fsb board it's well suited for it. I checked AMD's site, and only a handful of Cheeze-Whiz boards had made their approved list for the Duron. I also heard that if the bios of any board reported the actual MHZ of an XP during boot-up instead of their + rating, that they wouldn't put it on the list. Never a dull moment..

Well, I'm dying to give it a shot.

even if the chip doesn't work, I'll just have to get an Epox eheh. so it's a win win situation.

as for a 2000mhz chip,
Wow, that's crazy. you'd need a 15 multi to hit that at 133. Anyway, maybe i'll do a test run and order an xp. Would be interesting to see what happens.

The Epox looks good.. I've kind of been waiting to see how the 266A board from Asus was going to stack up, and I see it's just now sneaking out of the gate. Amdmb.com has a bit of info, and links to a german site that reviewed one- looks like top shelf performance once again, and even Asus is touting it's overclocker-friendly features, with good reason it seems...

But by that time the Thououghbreds will be out and there will be no point in getting an XP.

1)Any success with unlocking AthlonXP and overclocking it? It would be great if it is possible to run Xp1600+ using 13x105 on A7V rev1.02. Maybe the 5x to 14x remapping also works?

2) Is it possible to use the 5x to 14x remapping with A7V (KT133 200 FSB) changing AthlonC (266) L2 to L6 bridges?

Tomorrow I receive AthlonC AYHJA unlocked 1,4GHz and as I have learned the max is 13x105...110 with old A7V.
