View Full Version : Silver TDX or Swiftech Storm?

Which would work better in a low flow - low head pressure setup? Also how would the G5 compare to a Silver TDX in the same environment?
Reason I am asking is because I have gone to underground cooling setup with 50’ of 3/8” copper tubing buried underground. The underground tubing cools off the water better then I ever would have imagined but at the price of some major restriction. I am using two pumps in series, a DangerDen DDC-12V (http://www.dangerdenstore.com/product.php?productid=135&cat=23&page=1) and a DangerDen CSP-MAG (http://www.dangerdenstore.com/product.php?productid=178&cat=0&page=1) . Which waterblock do you think will perform best for me?

The data shows pretty clearly that the Storm owns the TDX. However for low flow the Swiftech MCW6002 might be a better choice. Also why 3/8" copper tubing, I mean 1/2" shouldn't be that much more of a pain should it?

My Storm keeps my CPU at ambient temperature, 77F, but you might have to wait until they are in stock again.

I have an MCW6002 that I tried using but it ****ed all over and killed my MB. I prefer to use waterblocks that have flanged hose barbs that don’t leak. Atm I am using a TDX which gives me better temps then I was getting with the swiftech. To tell you the truth I'm not sure what all the talk about the MCW6002 is because after I took it out of my computer I used it in my brothers for about a month before we got him a TDX also. Both times TDX got better temps then the swiftech.
I would say wait for the Storm blocks to get in stock and get one of those.

Sidewinder has the storm in-stock. Just ordered mine today and got tracking :)

But the storm looks sooo restrictive. Is it really the best block for me or are you guys just looking at those reviews and assuming nothing can touch a storm in any situation.

read the data or search some threads.
you are using 2 pumps and you are worried about restriction?

I'm using two pumps but neither are high flow pumps. 50' of 3/8" copper tubing and 3 water blocks is about as restrictive as it gets. I't would have been smarter to go with bigger 1/2" copper tubing but everything I have is 3/8" so thats what was in my head when I went to the hardware. Oops. Now its done and burrieds so thats what I'm stuck with. Also, the distence from lowest part of my tubing to my highest pump in my computer is about 7'. I'm sure that takes its toll on the pumps as well.

height is not a factor at that heigth and tubing width
the distance is as its more surface area but you underestimate what 2 pumps in series can do though i would have matched them for same type/brand so they have identical specs because you will be limited to the one with the slowest flow

Actualy, OC.com shows less pressure drop from the TDX than the 6002.

0dT huh, must be a special version, something like cathar sacrificed his first born to summon the power of the WCing gods.
The 6002 and TDX will both work excellent for you.

see my sig for the number my storm put up.
it's an amazing block.:D
So would you say that a TDX is best for a high flow setup? Better than most? I have an RBX, and from what I read above, they're supposed to be similar, just that the TDX is double barbed. I was happy with the RBX, but I don't think it would be very good for a low flow setup. Might want to stick with the Swiftech...
