View Full Version : Made my own GPU block, works great as a CPU block

For my current shuttle project, I have decided to watercool it. I tried making a gpu and cpu waterblock so I would know it would all fit. Well unfortunately the CPU block had to be cancled as I quickly learned that it wasn't going to work. The GPU block however turned out nicely, a lot nicer then I expected.

I don't have any pictures of the inside of the block, what I did was I drilled two half spiral things and joined them in the middle by using my dremmel to cut 10 or so slots in the copper. Water comes and goes through two 7/16 holes that run almost the full length of the block. The block doesnt seem to be too restrictive and it works very well. I had an auto mechanic help me finish the block, we tested it and had no leaks when using his 180psi air hose. Right now I am using the block on my CPU and I idle within a few C of the ambient temp with my BIX rad and a 90mm fan (my 120 broke) I have used superpi to put the processor under load and I topped out at 32-33C.

Excellent work. I always like to see these turn out well.

So, can I expect similar temperatures when it goes on my video card?

OK, with my 6800gt running at 444mhz I am idling at 43C, and I hit 47C under load, is that good for a watercooled GPU? If that is bad, could be due to the fact that I zip-tied the block to the card? What does the 6800gt usually run when watercooled?

the temp for the gpu seems about right for the BIX setup. I was getting similar results with a BIX and mcp655. As far as mounting it, if you are capable enough to make the block, why not mount it using the stock back plate of the nvidia card.

I just used zip ties as a quick way to mount the block, I havent made it to making a proper mounthing thingu
