View Full Version : Water cooling... should I bother?
I'm considering building a water cooling system. But I've been reading yall's temps, and it seems like the only advantage I would get (without using a TEC) is the lesser noise. Doesn't seem like I would be able to get any cooler than I am currently.
I don't want a bong system either, I think its a visual nightmare (sorry to current owners, but I'm kinda aestethically anal). And I don't have the money to buy a decent power supply for a TEC right now either. So a straight water cooling system is what I had in mind.
If I'm going to go to all the trouble, I would at least like to see a 5C temperature drop. Is this possible, or should I forget it?

I'd say its WELL worth it. Right now I idle around 4C above ambient and max out around 7C above ambient. I REALLY need to get me some fans to level out my case temp fluctuation. Then I could tell you how much below your current temps you can get. As I type this I'm at 37C but my case temp is up at 33C so I'm thinking that could be my problem ;)

Watercooling is MUCH better thin air
right now my temps are 4c above ambient at 1.89volts
I realy want to see air do that;)
but if your not going to overclock I dont think watercooling is worth it

With watercooling my 1.1 Gig T-Bird runs at 9-10c with a case temp of about 13-14c. An we all know how hard it is to cool an AMD chip.

your proc temps are colder than case temps. i take it you have a pelt:rolleyes:

my water tower (bong) gets my CPU down to 19C (21 ambiant)
and 24 under full load..... (633 cBo celeron @ 1066)
And yes they dont look to good, that is why i am getting my buddy to paint it.

yes i have an 80 watt pelt. anyone who runs with watercooling should have one.
As most here have said, it is best only if your overclocking, otherwise not really worth it. But if you do overclock, way worth it... It can keep the temp down a little better from what Ive seen in comparison to just fans... But that is partially just me... I love the idea of watercooling more than most people do Im sure....
Sounds like it could be worth it. And yes, I do plan to overclock, but not until I have tested all the components out at normal speeds and made sure there are no glitches. Actually, I want to water cool because I want to oc, but as it stands, the cpu gets warmer than I'd like without ocing.
Thanks for all the input.
No probs... thats why were here! :D
