View Full Version : ATI's Countdown
Today while I was on ATI's website, I noticed there is a countdown clock on the home page, could this be for their new line of video cards (x1800) and Avivo?

Crossfire?
Could this be Christmas in October?

Well it has to do with speed in some way.

speed baby yeah ;)

Yeah... it's something interesting to speculate on, I guess.
I set my computer date past the release date and this is what showed up: Radeon X1K: Enter a World of Visual Velocity.

i saw the countdown on ati,s home page and it freaked me out!
distance over time=velocityYeah, but velocity is a vector, indicating speed *in a direction*, and I am not sure ATI has one...LOL.

been talking about it for sometime now.
more rumors
How is it a rumor, it is from ATI, try it yourself.
thats exactly what i was going to say... its ATI... why the hell would they be speculating rumors about their own damn card....

sorry, not chips but crossfire. AFAIK ati officialy confirmed it :)
but RV530, RV515, and RV520 will be soon after it. Mass production have already started by TSMC, they will be in 90 nm technology.

For those of you who live in Toronto you may want to check out the giant billboard that (I'm assuming) ATI put up. I saw it when I was on the king street car going west, it's at that street after john (I think it's peter). Same spot where the giant Halo 2 board was up last year. It's a giant LCD timer on a red background that has hours, minutes, and seconds. After converting the time it is 12 days. I didn't think much of it until I noticed the ATI timer after coming here. Nowhere does it say ATI but thats what I think its for. BTW I've been visiting the board for years just never bothered to post.

Where did they say that? And how do you explain the X1k thing? This is defo the new cores. Crossfire may be released at the same time but theres no way that its going to say "Radeon X1K: Enter a World of Visual Velocity" and mean crossfire but not the X1*00
koontz946

well, that X1K thing could be a preventative measue b/c ATI figured some people would try to get around their countdown

I must say i do not understand your post
New cores are RV530, RV515, and RV520. Ati even works with Rv516 if i remeber correctly.
Radeon X1300 is the name of the card not the chip / procesor / core.
For example radeon 9550 has Rv350 or Rv360 core / chip.
I've read about crossfire release here here (http://www.nvision.pl/comment.php?comment.news.5057) and at some other portals ( polish ;P ). They say it's ati confirmed news.
First i've stated it will be core but i get confused cause other news about releasing new core in september / october.

The new cores R530, R515, and R520 all fall under the category "X1000 series".
"X1K" is the lazy way to type "X1000" because K = 000.

Frankly I'm amazed at the lengths people will go to in order to ignore the obvious. ATi can't afford to put a timer like that on their website and it meaning something completly different to what most poeple think it does. The timer fits in with what we know about the release of the new cores (r520 and X1800 are the same thing dammit!) so why should it mean crossfire. They are just not going to dissapoint the customers like that, again. This was obviously ment to start us speculating about X1800. Big companies simply do not make mistakes as simple as having the timer based off your computer clock and not mean the information to be leaked. Sure it happens on occasion but I doubt it.
This IS X1800. Don't even bother arguning that it isn't because all your doing is making yourself look ignorant and pig headed. When something is this obvious and you still ignore it (or call it a rumour even though its on the official website) you must be in denial that all your work to discredit ATi has finally come to an end.
(PS: sorry for spelling mistakes I'm pretty angry at the people here at the moment)
Yeah, some people need to calm down. No OFFICAL information has been released from ATI on any of the new GPU's. Who knows it could be 90x better than 7800, no one knows yet, who knows it could be a 64 pipe monster. Just wait until the offical information comes out.

That would be sweet. We might even see it next year at the current rate of development ;)

Alot of sites have been saying that the cards wouldn't meet the yields they were expecting but if you look in ATi's press releases, they say TSMC has delivered. It will be interesting.

I can't wait to see what kinda numbers they get.
I'm not buying R520 though, just waiting for CrossFire X800 cards to come out because I'm CrossFire ready. I have P5WD2 Premium and X800Pro. I'm pretty confident X800Pro Crossfire will Play BF:2 on 1280x1024@75mhz vsync high detail with full AA\AF and right now that'a all I could want.

how is a released board, crossfire ready? it may be SLI ready, but how can you tell if it is crossfire ready?
Yeormom

Crossfire is totally different from SLI~ A board will only be crossfire ready if it literally says it on the box as it requires hardware modifications.

me also thinks that ATi Radeon X1800XT : 16ps - 600MHz Core/1400MHz Memory will be slower than 7800gtx. But with some oc... who knows :)
Heard rumors that x1800xt will have 1,26ns Samsung memory and this could theoreticaly oc 2000/1,26=aprox 1,6 GHz

A. Radeon Xpress 200 CrossFire Edition and Intel i955X based dual-slot motherboards are supported platforms.

I've only been seeing 16 pipes for the XT release. Don't think theres been an official word on it yet though.
There are suppositly 16, 24 and 32 pipe possibilites though.

These versions probably do exist, but I guess the yield rate is too low right now, heard there are like 32 pipe versions out there.

I've heard about it too (some news about only 10 radeons with 32 pipes manufactured  )
anyway i was talking about xt version of x1800 and never heard about xt release with more than 16ps.
I doubt this is going to completely destroy the 7800GTX but I expect it to be at least equal. 24 pipe versions may come out eventually but yield are probably still to low at the moment.
As to the crossfire thing: only the ATi xpress200 chipset and the intel i955X currently support it. The reson you don't hear about xfire support in the specs is because the intel chipset was produced before it had been comfirmed that xfire was going to be on it. ATi made the deal with intel to get greater market penetration in the more lucractive intel market. Enthusiats may be the ones to go for dual GFX cards at the moment but SLI and xfire will be comming down in price into the mainstream market where average Bob gamer wont know whats best and sees the pentium logo and 2 graphics cards on a case and think "w00t" (seeing as hes probably the annoying 1337 guy who spams the chat in CSS and uses the autosnipe)

there wont be 32 pipe r520s. However r580 will be 24 and possibilly 32 pipes but when they will come out is unknown but rumors say early 2006

The Pro and XL versions are pretty likely to have 16 pipes, but the XT is still unknown. Guess we'll have to wait another week until we know for sure.

In an ATi R520 presentation, one of the slides reveals that their next generation R580 is actually in the house and working. It will be the improved version of R520 built with 24 and 32 pipelines. Two months back, we reported that NVIDIA G80 is ready and waiting for R580 to come along. In 2006, we will see both architectures start appearing.
VR-Zone article was writen on the 28th of September. The other site was writen on the 11th of September.
