Does this seem right for my system in my sig?

3dMarks05: 4269

I dont think so. That card should be in the high 5k range or low 6k at stock even . Check some video card reviews if you want to verify this but that processor and video should easily score 1000 more then that.

what could be wrong?

also when Im in CS:S, FPSs max out at 60, goes as low as 59 and 60, and goes back and forth...

I also just updated the drivers from the website...

Well one of those things is obviously a bottleneck for you to max out at 60 and only drop one or two frames. What kind of Kingston is that?

Yeah, something is wrong. I score in the low to mis 6ks with my rig.

Thats not right for sure. If you could run teh cs:S stress test on 640x480 on lowest video options and post your average that could help me. Im sure the card is slightly bottlenecked but if people with older amd 64s do better something is very wrong. Could be as simple as drivers but i doubt thats your issue.

I get about 6400-6500 i think at stock. definitely above 6k

My X850XT-PE at stock speeds:

Since your card is not PE, it should score ~100 points less in 3DMark05 at stock speeds.

Could it be my ram? I dont do much overclocking right now because Im in school and really depend on stability of a CPU because I use the computer for all my work, so I bought the Value ram... I was reading that ram really doesnt make a difference, its just when you go overclocking when you see that difference... I mean, I have 2GBs in the orange slots on my DFI board operationg dual channel...

also could it be that I was running a free trail version of 3dmarks05?

IWasHungry

No, I'm using the free trial version lol.
Have you tried using Driver Cleaner and doing a fresh driver install?

Amoroso
09-22-05, 09:47 PM
no havent tried a fresh driver install... Is Driver Cleaner an actual program? or do you just go to Device Manager and uninstall the driver?

Download Driver Cleaner SE *here* (http://www.drivercleaner.net/).

1. Uninstall current drivers through Add/Remove programs.
2. Reboot computer into Safe Mode.
3. Use Driver Cleaner to clear any ATI or Nvidia graphics related files, along with its Cab Cleaner function.
3. Reboot computer into normal mode.
4. Install video drivers.

Well for CS:S running at 60FPS, could your V-Sync be on?

Also for video card not posting correct scores, its possible that the line your video card is using so much power already, make sure the video card has its own power line. Now that im thinking of it are those just PCI-E cards? Or is your power supply powerful enough for the whole system?

As the others have mentioned this is clearly problematic. I score that on my 6600gt...

I agree on both points.

Vsync is more than likely the limiter in CSS

PSUs are a huge part of these newer systems. They choke and die in so many unpredictable ways when they dont have the power they need.

Well to give ya an idea I sorta had a similar issues back when I got my video card. Now my PSU was powerful enough to handle it but it wasn't giving good scores at all. I was getting around 3.5-4k in score (with the modded card) not where I should of been sitting. I reworked my internals and sorted power lines, well when it got up I was over 6k for a score which was where it should of been at my speed and the CPU I have.

I'm new and just caught this thread...

I only score 4010 with 3DMark05 with my rig...

I wonder what my bottleneck might be?

I know this thread revolves around the ATI X850, but does anyone have any additional thoughts on our bottlenecks?

Thanks!

How fast is your videocard running? 410/1100 should get you about 5.5 ~ 5.8k on 05. If your CPU is running slow that could contribute slightly.

Thanx for the reply ziggo0!

How fast is my CPU running? Well, that's just the thing! Originally, my system used an AMD 64 2800+ CPU (BIOS overclocked at 10%) and my 3DMark05 score was about 3990.

I recently upgraded that CPU to an AMD 64 3700+ (still 10% OC) and my score only jumped up to 4010.

My friend Electron Chaser pointed out that 3DMark05 is a test of your computer video power, not overall computer strength.

I am having a problem with my on-board sound that effects my video performance. I posted a new thread in the AMD motherboard forum about it today. Anyhow, during gameplay (like Doom3) sometimes the sound will become garbled for a few seconds. The thing is, when the sound garbles, it actually effects video performance too!

I've re-installed windows and updated the drivers to no avail!

I am beginning to wonder if my ASUS K8N motherboard is defective in some way. All of my other components seem solid including the ppowersupply.

Ooops, I just realized I piggybacked someone else's forum thread! SORRY!

OOPS!

I just realized I was asked the speed of the video card.

Well, I have a stock BFG 6800 GT which is factory overclocked by BFG to 400 / 1000.

Electron Chaser gave me the Nvidia coolbits program, but I haven't messed with my video card settings at all. I figure it is plenty fast without me messing with it... Now I'm not so sure???

I have a OCZ Powerstream 520w and everything is powered, even the card.

Im running the graphics card in the 2nd slot down away from the processor, because I dont have clearance of the 1st slot because the chipset fan of the DFI Ultra-D board rubs agaisnts the graphics card not allowing it to spin... so I was forced to put it down a slot, Could that be it?

ah man, my p4 3.4 with a oced x800 kicks yer scores ass.... but yeah thats not right, it should be around 6500 to 7000

I switched over my card to the other slot and just did a test.

3DMarks05: 6123

Is that good? I dont know this is first time running 3DMarks05

that sounds more like it, if you didnt have the jumpers on that board set to the bottom PCI-ex16 slot, it will run at 2x bandwidth instead of 16x. The top slot, with default jumper placement is x16.

The man speaks the truth. Running a video card these days at anything under 8x will severaly limit performance.

If you put it in SLI mode, then both will be 8x mode.
