View Full Version : I need cheap high-voltage memory

I recently decided to finally upgrade to one gig of ram. I was thinking of buying another stick like mine, but it might have different chips and I have someone to sell this one to.
So, I need cheap memory that will do at least 250MHz 2-2-2(or better) at any voltage. I want to get the OCZ value vx, but I'm not sure if the one on newegg is the right one or not. I would really like to keep the cost under 120.

You can always get some TwinMOS but they are not guaranteed BH5 chips so I guess you would be taking a gamble.
However see if you can track down some Speed Premiums either at Egg or some other retailer. They are cheap, around $80 and are BH5's. Also you could post in wanted section of the classifieds and see if anyone is selling them.

Per a recent post over at XS, in the TwinMOS UTT thread, the SPs no longer are made with Winbond chips. This post included a copy of an email from TM, if I remember correctly.
Your only chance would be to find some old stock somewhere, and honestly, I doubt that you would have any luck with that, as there weren't that many sources to begin with.
I think that the cheap UTT has gone the way of the dodo bird unless OCZ or G.Skill still has them. I don't know whether or not they are still being sold. For sure, TwinMOS, Mushkin, GEIL and othes no longer have them in their value line.

I wasn't thinking of the GEIL value ram. I was thinking of the Ultra-X. It's what I have right now and it goes as high as I want, but I really want a matching pair of 512 sticks.
At the time that I bought this, they were around $95 and they were supposed to ahve TCCD. I was supprised to find out it has UTT. Newegg stopped carrying the Ultra-X for a few months and its back again for around $65. If they have the same chips I would consider it, otherwise it would be a waste of money.

try the ocz gold series ( not vx ) but the gamer's edition pc3200. On newegg they have it for rebate. They have UTT-BH5 chips. Or the Geil Ultra-X have UTT-BH5 as well. Those two are the cheapest sure shot UTT that you can buy.

I could pay more if I need to, I just don't want to spend too much on memory. I think I'll just buy another GEIL Ultra-X 512 since it will be cheapest and is the same as what I have.

If I remember correctly, it was rebadged Hynix, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

You can get 256MB Balistix Sticks for ~$26 a piece & they like moderate amounts of high voltage as best I can tell. I'm able to do 2.5-2-2-5 at 250MHz with 3v which outperforms my old UTT. With some more volts they'll do 270MHz with fairly good timings I'm sure. What the max voltage one would want to use for Micron -5Gs?

Thought it was Mosel 5ns ram if im not mistaken. But I could be wrong. I also know that mushkin has stopped using utt-ch5 in their blue line. Lucky that i got one pair before they did that :D .

You could use around 3.0 ~ 3.1 V . But anything over 2.9 or so , do put a fan on them. They dont run as hot as TCCD but definitely run hotter than the winbond modules. Try putting a fan on the TCCD modules , ull notice they can go higher with tighter timings :D .
