I have a windows NT server at the office. It was hit pretty hard by Nimda and I've been thinking about formatting and re-installing.

The reason I was thinking of doing that is because the regular pc's that got hit as hard never acted truly right until I did a format. They worked , just as the server does, but were funky and slow.

I have done countless formats of 95/98/me, but never an NT/2000 and certainly not an NTserver install.

Are they pretty much the same or are there some pitfalls or major differences to watch out for.

no thet are nothing alike, nt and nt server are, and to some extent 2k. nt basically can have some flawless installs, but you will need to understand RAS and also have your Sp and hardware/driver info nailed down prior to doing it. the install itself is really not that bad, just yadyadyada f8, its that first boot and gettig your system back to the prior state when the work starts

Can you re-install NT server over the existing like you can with 95/98 without losing settings . drivers , etc. ?

no, none of it is that simple, even repairing or recovering because you go back to creation
