I'm building a water cooling setup this week amd I need some experienced advice on pumps. I'm going to be running all 1/2 inch tubing, inlets/outlets, etc. There will be a cpu and video waterblocks and possibly a northbridge waterblock as well. So far I've read good info the Eheim 1250 (316gph) and the Danner 250gph. Are these pumps sufficient for my purposes? How about the noise factor, is one quieter than the other? Lastly, if there's another brand/model that you'd recommend, let me know.

Thanks in advance.

With all those blocks restricting the flow, I would go for a larger Eheim or a Danner Mag 7. Remember, you can always restrict the flow of a big pump to get the best temps. If your pump is too small, you will never know unless you try a larger one.

Thanks Colin,
What about the temps the pump itself creates? Are they negligible? What GPH or lift do you recommend? Also, are there any pumps that are known for being quieter than others of the same ability? (besides the one named the "Quiet One").

An Eheim or a Danner are very quiet provided you mount them on some type of foam. I have tried pumps up to 1800 GPH. My best results have been with the 700 GPH Danner. Although I am going to use a 1200 GPH Danner in my next project (lots of restriction), I doubt you will need anything over the 700 GPH pump. Also if I were to spend my money again, I would buy an Eheim. Better EM shielding and fewer problems with sealing the impeller chamber.

Eheim seems like the way to go then. I'd rather get the right unit the first time then get the lower end model and then have to upgrade (been there too many times). i've got some ideas which incorporate a mini freezer into the loop so I may need the extra "oomph". Maybe I should consider a higher flowing model. As far as sealing the impeller blade, do you know of any good guides for this procedure? Sounds like a important step.

Once again, Thanks!:)

As far as I know, Eheims do not require any sealing of the impeller chamber. I have no personal experience with one. Perhaps an Eheim owner will chime in.

I've got an Eheim 1250 and it works great for my chipset, vid card and cpu.If you can hear it then you have not bleed it all the way.Make sur you go to the smaller blocks before the cpu as the water won't pick up as much heat from them, and yes the pump is submersible.

I just ordered a Eheim 1060 (600 gph) water pump. I found one for about $100.
Thanks for the input guys.:)
