Orbs suck.
Yes even the Dragon Orb's that all the Orb lovers have hung their last bit of hope on sucks too.

where ever you got the information that the do3 sucks, was wrong, this orb is one of the top fans out there for the price, as long as you get the copper base model, then it will cool your computer WONDERFULLY. i believe the front page has a HSF article in which the do3 did fairly well.....so try to get your information straight before you bash on just you dont know about
DOrb 3 Copper works better than a lot of HSFs. Read the specs on the front page, it beats the CAK38:cool:

Whoever said the DO3 is crap must have smoked his breakfast.
I used one before I switched to watercooling and it was great. Loud, but great.

I think the Volcano 6Cu+ is a really great HSF, especially for the price! I paid $12 for mine and it doesn't let the temps go over
4 - 5C @ full load above ambient. I am running it on my P3-850. It may be a little "loud" but it doesn't bother me. Heck i leave both sides off my case off and I can sleep with it humming 24/7. When the CPU is at idle the temp on the CPU is usually at ambient. I think it is a really good HSF, just not well represented.

I have a friend who put together a system for his brother and OC'eda AMD 1.4 to 1.8 with JUST a Dragon Orb3 and 2 120mm thermalake fans for the system. His bother has not had a problem with it since and this has been for about the last three monthes!! I personally have a Thermalake fan on my board and even though you can hear the darned thing in the other room when its on, it works great!"I may not have ended up where I wanted to be but, I believe I have ened up where I needed to be"...Douglas Adams~R.I.P.

The good thing about this volcano babe is, that it will only slowly increase the temp instead of mine old coolermaster EP5-6I51-A1, get to the hottest temp then stop there. eventhough it was a good overall performance(handle mine 1.2Ghz @ 1.4Ghz at 42c:cool:) and most importantly itz lot quiet than this babe:eek: !
anyway what i am trying to say is a good HSF should slowly let the temp increase as this is good for the cpu.
btw sound isn't dat much of an issue to me as mine sys goes into the drow underneathe.:D :D :D
from what I have heard the orbs are fine for intel chips
it's just that some of them are not exactly the best for amd:)

all i have to say is the CAK38 is a CRAPPY HSF. i tried it for a little while, and it was running 8 C hotter than the temps with my thermoengine. i even lapped it with some high grit sandpaper. that only brought the temp down 1 C. do not get this HSF, for it will suck. overpriced too for the crappy performance(way too loud)

Yeah, I know, it's not the best. But it's not bad for $30 bucks. As I'm writing this, my Athlon 1.4@1.54 is cool at 38.5C. That's not bad. I'm not even using Artic Silver.
As for noise, yes, it sure sucks. It's got this high pitched whirling sound. But wait....
Don't worry folks! I just discovered a great noise reductions solution for this. As a matter fact, it might even be useful for other noisy fans. Using a carbon pre-filter (the black stuff used for air filters), I've cut out a circle and taped it on top of the Dragon Orb3, covering the top part. Guess, what?!? It makes a ton of difference. It no longer makes that annoying sound!
It now sounds great and temp may be the same or 1 degree higher. 38.5C ain't bad. My high is around 50C. Has anyone else tried using a carbon pre-filter? This may be a first. You've heard it hear first!!!

it kept my brand new athlon 1.4 alive for almost an hour without a fan (the fan was broken right out of the box). Then it killed it  . Then I bought a new processor and water cooling, and everything was good again:) .

Yes it beats a CAK38, an old heatsink by heatsink standards. Does it keep up with any HSF's in its age range, no, not the good ones.
i.e. Orb's suck.

yes i do knew dat all orb suckz, but what do u pplz think of Indigo orb? it sound like itz awsome as itz approve to PIV! and how about the mini copper orb, itz using copper base as well.
please explain:D

why not get the globalwin wbk38, i used the 5000rpm fan and without artic silver my t-bird which was @1.85vcore and cpu overclocked to 1.2ghz never got over 43C
Good heatsink, however theres an even better one out there , go to overclockers.co.uk and look at the copper thermoengine.....

get the zen, it is the best. it uses a heat pipe and beats the sk6 easily, it might cost alot though

na actually the wbk one ish not as good as mine one, it keeps mine 1.2ghz at 1.85 Vcore below 34c, and datz with just the silicon compund dat came with it.
but i dunno wat "zen" hsf u were mentioning about.
i am not looking for a new hsf yet, i am just wondering wat u guyz think of those orb i mention before.

I got one of them Dragon Orb 3's.
It is kind of loud, but it DID save my cpu when the motherboards
fan header burned out on me and the fan stopped spinning.
The 2CoolPC fan blowing on the board and copper block
probably helped also.
I WILL be using a molex to 4 wire adapter to run the thing
when my RMA'd motherboard gets back.
The DO3 comes in 2 flavors.
1 that draws 0.15amp/1.8w and the one I got that
draws 0.5amp/6w.
They probably should have put a 4 wire connector on the
high power model....

I got a Dragon Orb 3 with the 7000 rpm fan for my 1.4 GHz Athlon.
It SUCKED!!! It was loud as hell, even though the "SPECS" for it said it was quieter than the CoolerMaster I was using. What's worse, it didn't cool any better than the CoolerMaster, it was slightly worse.
I recently got a Jagged Edge Waterblock, Eheim 1060, and an Aquacoil radiator. Now, I'm working good.
CPU is 39C at full load, with Case Temp of 27C.
I've pushed the Athlon to 1.51 GHz so far, and it is rock solid. I'll probably be able to get to 1.6. CPU temp hasn't yet been affected from overclocking.
If you can afford it and have the patience to put it together, watercooling is the way to go.
