HI,
here's my problem..

I have 2 PC's networked here, both are running win2k pro.
When I click on 'Computers near me' nothing comes up..infact after 30 secs or so it says that the program isnt responding?

I can do a manual search for the other PC, it eventually finds it but it takes *forever*. I have recently formatted and re-installed win2k on both machines and before that they would see each other in 'Computers near me' and it would take less than a second If to find it if i searched for it.
Also at the moment when i want to access the other pc from this one it ask's me for a password to gain access....But I haven't set a password!!

I know it's just some setting's Ive screwed up but I cant find where...
Any Ideas Guys?

Thanks.

Thourghout all of my experience in networking, i've found win2k to be a real pain in the @ss. The problem is probably that you need to enable the geust account on the win2k comp:
Control panel > users and passwords > advanced tab > advanced (button) > Users > Right click guest, and deselct "account is disabled"
then make a password for it or not, and you should be able to connect to that computer. (i had that problem, once upon a time)

Thanks Mr00BiLL2

Yep that worked great, and it was so easy...i feel like a fool:o

But I still have the problem of not being able too see the other PC in 'Computers Near me' aka Network Neighborhood.
Both machines are running Win2k.
Reckon it might have something to do with workgroups?

They both have to be in the same workgroup, and have an IP that is on the same network but NOT the same address.

Set them up to use static addresses, first machine 192.168.11.1 second machine 192.168.11.2 Give a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 Then all should work.
