View Full Version : What to set where ? Abit BE6, Soltek slocket, Celery 533

First time trying oc on such an adjustable board (I previously had a C400 going 600 on a BX2000, but that just 'worked').

I have an Abit BE6, that has the SoftMenu in BIOS with presets for CPU, or manual setting of FSB etc.

I also have a Soltek slocket, also with jumpers for setting the same.

I want to squeeze as much as I can out of my C533 (or maybe will change to another Celery), but the question remains the same. What should I set to what ?

Should I give the slocket a fixed setting and frig with the BIOS Softmenu, or vice-versa ? And any suggested settings for both devices ?

Hope I'm not asking too much, but I have searched here, there, and everywhere, and not found anything concise (to me ....).

TIA

PS Anything I've tried so far has resulted in failing to POST, and having to clear the BIOS with the reset jumper in order to restart.

You should set stuff on the slotket and then leave that alone. Do all your overclocking in the BIOS. First off, there were 2 different Celeron 533 CPUs, one was the older style which does not overclock very well and the other is the newer coppermine FC-PGA that is a great overclocker. Each type of 533 has different default voltage. The older style Celeron had a default voltage of 2.0v I think. The newer style had a default of 1.5v I think. There is usually at least three sets of jumpers on the slotket. Tell us what the settings are are on your slotket. What brand slotket do you have too? If you have the newer 533 (green colored "flipchip" CPU) like my old Celeron 566, then set the slotket voltage jumper to maybe 1.6v or 1.7v. This will allow you to have more settings in the BIOS. You can always turn the voltage back down to 1.5v which is default. If you have the older style chip, then set the voltage to maybe 2.1v. The jumper most people mess up is one for CPU type. Sometimes the settings are either marked "Celeron" or "Coppermine". People with the newer flipchips often mistakenly set this to "Celeron" because they have a Celeron, but really it needs to be set at "Coppermine". On the last setting I always just used "auto". Hope this helps. Basically, you first need to determine which CPU you have, old or new style and then go from there. Good luck.

OK First of all since you say your new ... Your Celly has a LOCKED multiplier(I'm just telling you this because when I was newb at ocing i never knew this)

So basically all you can do is adjust the FSB...

And Disable Speed Hold Error...

Have you flashed your bios to the most recent?

I have a Cell533A (cuMine, FCPGA) on a P2B Rev 1.04 running at 896 (112MHz FSB) - I use a MSI 6905 MASTER REV2.
The minimum voltage supported by the board is 1.8, so it doesn't matter if I set the jumper on default or 1.8. Just set the overclockjumper on 100 MHz FSB and the boards' jumper on 112.
For cooling I use a coolermaster - cost only about 10$ and it's okay.

I had to flash the newest BIOS Version to make the celli run. Offically the P2B 1.04 doesn't support cuMine, because of the voltage (>=1.8)

Thanks for all your replies.

Batboy - I can handle the idea of setting the (Soltek) slocket and doing all the jiggery-pokery in BIOS, and I have a reasonable graspon how to tweak the BIOS settings, ie CPU votage and FSB to 75/83/100, etc, but what settings do I put the slocket to - the appropriate settings for the actual cpu or 'auto select'/default???

With the slocket settings cpu defalt (intel) and the Vcore to 'auto', it wouldn't POST even on 75MHz FSB. It is an 'old' version 533, though the Soltek is coppermine-compat. Done the latest (TH) Abit BIOS update. Maybe I just need a better o/c'able cpu ....

cricket - I'll look for that 'speed hold error' setting somewhere ...

Hmm You have the BE-6 rite?

If so its in the User Define in the CPU Soft Menu for Speed Error Hold...

cricket - OK I believe you. The PC and manual are at my recording studio some miles from here, and I haven't memorised the BIOS fully !

hehehe no problem.. just telling you so you wouldn't have to fly through the manual :D
