Hiyas all
trying to find a powersupply for a new build
Would prefer something without the dual 12v rails
comp specs I am looking at
x2 3800
epox 9npa+ ultra
saphire x800 gto2
2x 1 gig sticks memory
74 gig raptor
250-300 gig maxtor (possibly 2 of these)
All stuffed into an Antec p-180
Not shure...mos of new PSU units orient towards separate 12v rails..to acchive better current control for MBO and GPU cars aswell. maybe... some "older" tagan series above 480w would do fine..not shure...you are running dual core psu. Why are you interested in one 12V rail anyway?

most of the rest of my machines are all true duals
no no on using a split rail in one of those and would like to stick that way if possible.
plus I see no benifit to split rails other than they are cheaper to make :)

Just read the nine (9) active threads all starting with titles like "buying new psu".
Best I've heard about are the PCP&C510, OCZ520, Fortron AX500 Bluestorm which all seem to be in order or bestness 1, 2, 3 and also in order of decreasing price.
make that pcp&p 510, ocz 520 powerstream, fortron 550w-plg, ax500w bluestorm. Fortron and powerstream have roughly the same build quality but you get a louder fan and a very plain case with the fortron.

how are the just pc ones?
the 550 one has 25a one the 12v rail
or the vantec Ion 2 atx12v/eps supply
460 watts but 30a on the 12v rail
is a split rail one ok for an x2?
if its not going to give me problems I don't much care just have to remember not to put it into a dually :P
the fortron 550 plg (not pln) has 36 amps on a single rail. PCP&C is arguably the best powersupply out there but i'm not sure you need the best. One more psu to look out for is the seasonic 600w. It's one of the quietest psus around and is also built really well, unfortunately it's a split rail. It would fit between the fortron 550w and the ocz powerstream.
