modified boot screen with SP2, please help

I've been trying to make a new boot screen for Windows and I have been somewhat successful, but it is poorly executed. The only way I could get the new boot screen to work was to make a new version of the file, and then make a new line in the boot.ini under Operating System to have the startup menu to choose between regular windows xp, and windows xp with new boot screen. Well that is quite annoying and not worth it, I really hate having a startup menu.

Does anybody know how to make a new boot screen in Service Pack 2 without needing a startup menu?

I even trialed a retail program that was supposed to be SP2 compatible, and it did the startup menu method as well, so who knows.
