Has anyone ever tried or thought of trying an old AS/400 case.

Now that would rock, if anyone knows of someone ready to get rid of an old one let me know.

I used an old as/400 s20 before at work, before upgrading it

Im not sure about modding it, it was huge with its own ups built into the bottom, this thing run very loud all the time with various fans blowing.

One cool thing i did like is the led cpu meter on the front, spent a number of hours getting it to full load just to watch the power usage. would be nice on me pc

We have one at work that is pretty big, about 2.5 feet tall and 3 feet long. It has four 5.25 drive bays in the front, plus with that size it would be great for cooling.

The AS/400 was prolly before your time, Overclocker. It's an old IBM Mainframe computer that was pretty much the standard for corporate computer rooms. They ranged in size from the 2 1/2 foot tall, 3 foot wide, 3 foot deep all the way up to (The biggest one I ever worked on anyway) about 7 feet tall, 5 feet wide and 10-12 feet deep. If you want real fun, see if you can find a DEC Rainbow and mod that to take a new board. It's small (About the size of a normal mid-tower, cept it's a desktop) though it wouldn't really be something you could take to a LAN, if I remember right, mine weighed in at about 35 pounds (just the case after I had stripped everything out of it.) And good luck getting a dremel to even go thru it, as most of it was 1/4" steel... It was a dual processor machine tho... It was an 'Upgrade Path' type of a deal. Had an 8086 (The New) and if I remember right the other was a 6502??? (The Older). Could dual boot CP/M or DOS using either the external 8 inch floppy drive, or the new fangled 360K 5 1/4 inchers that were built in...
Have I dated myself?? Scary thing is I'm really not that old... Just been workin on hardware since I was like 3 or 4... :D
Peace
John

The AS400 is still around, IBM still makes new ones, they are pretty satable as far as mainframes go. Even Have PC emulation built-in now.
