I won one of the Athlon XP 1800+ CPUs, and tommorrow I will be installing it. I was planning on unlocking it with trace tape. But now I am reading mixed reactions to using tace tape on the XPs.
Does trace tape work good enough to unlock these XPs?
Or should I just wait and forget about unlocking this thing till
we know more about these?
Also which motherboard do you people think would be better for this CPU?
the MSI K7TPRO266 with a promise ATA100 IDE card or an Abit KG7-RAID.
I would just wait on unlocking it, if you can hit 150mhz fsb that will be 1725mhz that would push it close to max anyway.

I would not get the MSI, they seem to have usb problems when pushed over 138-140 FSB. You loose all usb, very weird but true and MSI has released a fix, but it has not worked for me.
I haven't had that problem....
148FSB and (hopefully) rising (a bit more...lol). :D
This is with the MSI K7T266 Pro that AMD handed out on the Tour...
(BTW...the chip has not been unlocked...148x11.5=1702MHz)

I think I will wait on unlocking it...
as for the board, I wouldn't be buying the MSI anyway, its the one I got from AMD in the same giveaway that I got the CPU.
I have the Abit KG7-RAID now
I read on hard ocp that the msi K7T266PRO has problems with more then 1 DDR module installed....anyone else have this problem?
I will be swaping over my 2, 256MB crucial DDR modules from my Abit if I do go with the MSI.
I have heard the MSI is a better overclocker!
