Alright I currently have WinXP Home installed on my hdd. I want to upgrade to XPPro, but I only have one hdd and I want to be able to boot the WinXPHome partition while I am installing XPPro on the other.

Basically, I want to know if I will be able to boot to the WinXP Home partition if I use partition magic to change the drive letter and move that partition towards the end of the disk, then create a partition in the front of the disk (c:) and install XPPro on it.

yes you can do this, the easiest program to accomplish this is Partition magic

Yes, I have Partition Magic.

I just want to make sure the current C: Drive will still be bootable when I change the drive letter.

When you say C drive are you talking about the physc hard drive? or just the partition? both will be bootable, you will just have a boot screen with two choices (XP PRO and XP Home)

There is no reason to dual boot HOME and PRO - just use PRO.

You won't be able to change the drive letter of the boot partition anyways.
Just install XP Pro and dump Home.

Amen.

Pro's just...well...pro. :) Use it instead of home.

Alright nevermind...

I just wanted to see if I could still boot with XP Home incase I needed to dl something. After I finished the install on the other partition, I was going to delete XPHome.

It really wouldn't be of much use as you wouldn't be able to run both at the same time. Once Pro gets to the point where you might need to download any extra drivers you would be able to download them directly anyway. It would be easiest to just boot from the XP Pro CD, and just install over Home.

If you really wanted to be certain you could always use Partition Magic to create a second partition after XP Home, and install Pro there. Then if anything went wrong you would have a working OS to bot into. Seems like a waste of time to me though, as the only problems I have ever encountered that I needed to use another computer were BIOS related. As Windows XP is already installed and working your BIOS will be compatible.
