View Full Version : Ram for Athlon 64 3000+ ?
I will be getting an Amd athlon 64 3000+ and a ULI mobo (when they come out in late october) and I need to get new ram as well. I have never built a computer with the athlon 64 before so I would like some help in picking out the right ram.
I've seen many people run either @ 200mhz x 5 or 250mhz x 4, which is better?
The ram I am looking @ right now is GeIL GL1GB4000DC 1GB Kit DDR500 PC4000.

Is that sufficient for my 3000+ ? (I will be overclocking it of course...) Or should I get something higher then PC4000 ?
Thanks for any advice ;)

pc4000 will be fine for that cpu. I don't know what IC's are being used on that ram, so I don't know how well those sticks overclock. I would get a 1GB stick of Ballistixs and set yourself up for two at the sacrifice of dual channel.

What is the point of getting ballistix ? just to overclock more ? I heard corsair value select can overclock high as well... ?

the ASRock ULI board is already out...... right now it looks like TCCD/TCC5 ram is good for that kind of mb.

which ULI mobo are you buying? If Asrock SATA II(ULi1695), make sure the ram you buy does not require more than 2.75 volts
I would go w/ TCCD if only 2x512
I dont quite understand "I've seen many people run either @ 200mhz x 5 or 250mhz x 4, which is better? "-what do you exactly mean?

I believe he's talking about the HTT..... which would be incorrect..... 200x5 or 250x3 is what it should be..... and if you're able to get your ram to run 250x3 that would be better than 200x5

Oh ok thanks.
there is an easy voltmod instruction (OCWforum) that could give vdim 3.3v and vcore upto 1.65v, if interested to do so and use higher voltage rams and cpu.

I was talking about the HTT, but I thought HTT should be @ 1000MHZ ? so shouldn't it be 200x5 and 250x4 ? I mean 250x3 = 750 only..
Of course I never had an athlon 64 so I'm not sure what the correct setting would be....

I was able to get 2.5-3-3-8 @ 229MHz and 2.5-4-4-10 @ 231MHz on my Value Select. I don't think they make pc4000 Value Select unless it is DDR2.

You are wanting to keep it at LDT3 because you will go above HTT250 (I hope). It is just a rule of thumb.

I don't understand, can you elaborate more ? I've seen people run FSB of 200 and 300 as well, but I was hoping to just run @ 250MHZ with PC400 ram (4x250=1000) what is LDT3?
