I appreciated the respite from his relentless pressure but he turned back to red and left me in his dust.

How is KingFish faring?

It'll be a long while before I get back to normal, if that's possible at all. I may have to sell off my farm parts and start all over at some point in the future. I had three trees on my house. Working 16 hour days nonstop right now. I'll post pics when/if I get a chance.

I am sorry to hear that kingfish ... If i were closer i would help out with my carpentry skills ... they are a little better than my puter skills although that might not be saying much.

I hope you and freinds and neighbours are getting help.

Good luck!

Hey guys, I've been out at work since early last Tuesday morning, came in today from the rig I went to in the East Cameron Block 48 area offshore and I'm going back out to the rig I've normally been on the last couple of months this evening in a few hours. I have to go back to my normal rig to finish my hitch up. Unlike this rig I've been on, I should have some internet access for the next week.

FingFish, I'm sorry to hear that you got some trees into your house, but I knew that you all in Lake Charles got really hammered by Rita. I'm glad to hear that you and your family are OK though.

Going out to this rig I was on for the last week was a real eye-opener to me. We caught the chopper out of the Abbevile, La. airport due to the normal places that we catch the chopper at being devestated. After we took off, we flew over the area south of Abbeville and over the White Lake area, heading to the East Cameron Blocks offshore, which are east of Cameron, La. The flooding south of Abbeville was tremendous and really disheartening. When we got to White Lake, you couldn't even tell where it was, since everything was underwater. It was real hazy when we flew out last Tuesday, so we really couldn't get a distant view of all the damage, but what we saw was just terrible. Today when we flew in, the air was a lot clearer and we could see some of the damage done a lot better. There is still a whole lot of water where it shouldn't be and the salt water that was pushed inland by the storm surge is now doing it's job on the vegetation. :( All the marshlands are now pretty much brown and salt burned. We also saw off in the distance a drilling rig washed up on the bank, but were too far away to see what kind of damage it had. As we got closer to Abbeville, the chopper let down to roughly 500-750 feet and I could smell the rotting vegetation of all the stuff dying. Now this area we flew over didn't get the tremendous wind damage that Lake Charles got, but this storm surge damage could potentially be even more devestating, I think. There is a lot of farmland that grows rice and sugar cane that was flooded with salt water and I imagine this salt will affect the growth of crops for many years to come. Also, there are quite a few houses that were flooded from this storm surge and I'm sure this salt water that got into their homes will be giving them problems for years to come too. Today when I came home, I was able to take La 14 from Abbeville to New Iberia, which I couldn't do last week because of the high water. I saw mountains of carpet and furniture out on the road for pickup for around an 8 mile stretch on the highway, with houses opened up with fans in doors and windows, trying to dry them out.

As for me, we came through the storm with flying colors. I had just 1 diseased weeping willow that was dropped by the storm and we were without electrical power at the house for only about 1 1/2 days. We had evacuated up to Arkansas anyways (my whiney wife and daughter, darn crybabies ;) ) and by the time we got back Sunday afternoon the power was back on.

One thing I found out: you can see all the pictures you want on the TV of the damage, but it's a lot worse when you can actually overfly this same damage and see it with your own eyes.

Hey Mudd, good to hear you weathered this storm well. I can't imagine the hurricane tango you've had to play in the last few weeks, Katrina on the left and Rita on the right  You're right though, the salt water damage to soil is going to take years to heal. I just hope the well water doesn't also become salt contaminated :/ .

Yeah Wally, the last few months have been touch and go with these bad hurricanes, but we've missed getting hit with the worst of them. Still, I'd rather deal with the hurricanes on the Gulf Coast than the tornadoes of tornado ally in the central portion of the country or the earthquake threat that you all in California live with. At least with a hurricane, you generally have at least a few days notice so that you can cut and run. :burn: I don't know how it would be to live where the earth could suddenly start shaking and splitting, dropping buildings and roads without warning.

BTW, I had a new playtoy come in while I was out at the rig this last week. I had bought a Sonoma 730 on eBay right before the storm came through and it came in while I was at the rig. I installed it into my P-M rig and it booted right up at 200 X 12 with default vcore. That's the same GHz my Dothan 735 maxed out at with 1.6v vcore. I didn't get enough time to really mess with it before coming back to the rig today, but I think this 730 is gonna be a good one for overclocking. I noticed better than a 30 ppd increase in folding speed on a p1481 with this 730 than with my Dothan 735 running at the same GHz. A quick check with Sandra also showed a significant increase in memory bandwidth too, which stands to reason since the ram is now running both faster and synchronously. When I get in I guess I'll break out the DDR booster and see what this proc and ram can really do.
