I've got both and I don't notice a huge difference between the two, at least in my uses.

No I don't think it is better than 2K. I do however think it is more convienient than 2K. With everything packaged into XP the way it is, you really dont need anything else. You have media players, and burning software built in....

Ive been running a final version of XP for over a month now. Stability isnt as good as Win2k, and XP experiences lag faster as well. 2k is my favorite, but i would say that XP is the next best hands down. I dont play any games so i really cant say how well it performs in that category.

Ahh, I love the smell of Bloatware in the morning! And Spyware in the afternoon!

No thank you, I don't like it when my OS drops huge amounts of temp files and other such stuff on my harddrive, and I don't need Microsoft knowing my name and address unless I tell it to them specifically, or where my pr0n collection is on my hd.

I'll stick w/ 2k, tyvm :)

XP looks like the OS was created by a pre-school child and opinions seem to vary as it is a matter of preference, it does seem stable however, but no more so than Windows2000. I personally do not like the way that XP forces the user to take such things as Messenger and to remove it correctly requires some hacking of the OS.
Overall I consider it to be pretty bloatware

im dual boot both at the moment and i love bothe of the OS security freatures along with stability, XP seems to use more resources and therefore my chip runs bit hotter, but it is way more convienient to the user, amd i like the new GUI, if ya dont you can turn it off as well. But there is oi huge differnece over 2k other than mainly looks, both are a fine OS and if i was a normal non overclocking user id go with XP

Its Microsoft's feeble attempt to make Windows behave like Linux and look like MacOS. People will go "Oooo, the GUI is so pretty!!!" and Microsoft will go "Oooo, look how much money this person has in their savings account!" . . . . No thank you.

I had the Final Win XP Pro Coparate edition and it was really laggy and sucked...

The 2552(I think) version was really good..

I just upload my porn directly to Mr. Gates' FTP server...It keeps him from having to search the net and he doesn't like pop-ups.

I think you have to try it for your self to really know if its for you.I will say that it has a ton more features, which means it is bloated if your not going to use them.As far as stability my system has not crashed yet. My puter starts 3 times quicker and access time seems to also be quicker. The desktop is ALOT neater and I think things are pretty organized considering the new features.Games and programs, I haven't found one that has not worked (haven't had to use the compatible thing ether).I had more then a few issues with win2000 incompatabilitys.Bottom line for me I would choose it over any other win OS.

i am currently running winXP Pro final and have been for a few months and and i love it!, it is faster then win2k, and since i was running win2k before this, in my opinion it is also more stable! and for everyone who says it looks like it was made by pre-school children all that can be changed very easily.this is what mine looks like.

As far as the built in features.....Every since Win3.1 the built in features have been very basic watered down versions of the real thing....When was the last time your typed anything in WordPad? or will you be burning a CD with the XP app or using the "real" program that came with your CD like Nero? I like the fact the MS includes these mini apps as not all users have all the programs right away but once you use the full featured programs the included mini apps pale.

I think XP is great , I used Win 2K , I like the added features, gaming has been great. Who cares if it is a bit bloated. As far as the info MS can get on us , thats something they probably had a long time ago , or you provided enought through some other means of marketing.

Who cares that it is bloated, Media plyer loads a bit slow , but overall I love the look and the way it has been bundled together.

I've just installed WinXP and been running it for 4 days now... its a little bit faster than win2k ( 4 or 5 fps on Q3:A ),no games lock-ups, faster boot time, cpu usage is always at 5-10% when system is idle ( ) not like win2k which is at 0-1%, I like the look ( though you can change it to classic look easily ), nice new games with XP Plus!, cannot run my McAfee anti-virus, tolerates my tweaking, and more.... i kinda like it... so far stability is not a problem....

Yes, it is incompatible with most anti-virus software (Norton, PCcillin, and McAfee5.0 ), It is compatible with McAfee 6.0 (their latest release). It is also not compatible with most CD recording software. It is an excellent OS, but needs to work on some compatibility issues.

Windows XP ownz j00.

There is nothing else to say. This is everything *I* could need in an OS. WIn2k is slow, and drags on compared to XP. Stability is unmatched, I found that WIn2k had lots of swapping issues, and it's a resource hog. XP doesn't have either of the 2.

My only concern is the lack of hardware support, and the WHQL drivers.

Other then that, it's a pretty flawless OS. I'm very impressed, and I give MS kudos, it's easy to learn, and easy to use.

Good Job. I'd recommend this to anyone.

It is pretty nice I must admit. So many things to tweak and play around with. I keep screwing up my BroadBand by trying different tweaks though. Oh well live and learn right. I learn everything by trial and error. It'll be a lot better once I learn everything with this one. Stability is great. It's hard to believe I havent had a system lockup in over a week now! :) And that's with the system running all the time.

What about the re-register thing every time you change hardware or format? I heard you can only format , or change hardware 6 times in a year or the OS will not work?

I got this version of XP ( OEM ) from a friend which doesnt require activation... so any amount of system changes will be okay... the version to be released on OCT 25 will come with the activation stuff I guess....

If you reformat you should be OK. You can also install new items , but when you go over 4 new components and then try to reformat , Microsoft will think that you are setting it up on a new machine. you will then have to call them to get a new activation key.

Ive been using the final release version for a few weeks now and like it,i also liked win2000 over 98se and ME. XP load alot faster and has more to tweak and tinker with although sometimes i have trouble with my broadband connection on XP when using it through my router?? Overall its a nice improvement...
