Sony Vaio Question

My friend wants me to make his vaio faster but I was wondering if the sony vaio uses proprietary parts or you can just use regular parts ie ram etc.

If desktop, the easiest answer is just to open it and check the ram. RAM is usually standard, but things like mobo connectors may not be. The cpu is probably standard as well, bet you'll want to check if the board supports faster CPUs before trying to upgrade. To be honest, the biggest improvement in speed he'll see will be if you remove all his spyware (assuming that, like many people, he has a ton).

It is a desktop and I will open it eventualy I just haven't gotten the chance yet.
