The card just came today, and I've got in installed. The only times I hear crackling are if I start up a game while listening to MP3s, or in CounterStrike, if EAX is turned on, there is crackling after one stops shooting. But only your OWN gun, it doesnt happen after other player's guns stop firing.

When should I expect to hear crackling? My motherboard has the 686B southbridge, and someone said I should expect alot of problems, but those are the only 2 so far. (I havnt tried playing any other games just yet)

If EAX is off, there aren't any problems in CS.

Edit: I tried out Onreal Tournament. There is no crackling with EAX either on or off, however, the game's treble seems to take over with EAX off. All games sound very tinny, and I have all settings on default.

The latest creative and VIA drivers are supposed to address these issues.

Well, I have the latest VIA drivers, 433. And I can't upgrade the creative drivers, whenever I try to install Live!Ware 3.0, I get a space error. But I have 20 gigs free.

It's a sound driver of sorts. It gives you better 3D perception in games.

I'm on Win98SE, I DLed the Win98 version of Live!Ware 3. It says at the top of LW3 "Live! Value" as opposed to "Live! 5.1".

i had this problem actually. it ended up being an IRQ conflict. windows didnt tell me about it, i just had to figure it out. maybe move the board around.

also, NEVER NEVER use any eax, a3d, etc... the only processing i will ever use is Dolby Digital or DTS. all the others are SO bad. sounds like a screwdriver tapping a soup can. ( a really bad soup can too!)
