View Full Version : w2k pro personalized installation.
has W2K Professional the option for personalized/custom installation?
mine installs only as typical and id like to remove some applications like netmeeting, wordpad, paint. Is that impossible to do still in the installation process?
thanks.
Yeah. You just have to wait for the GUI faze of the installation
what GUI faze of the installation?
Yeah. Where instead of it being Text-based, it looks like you're in Windows. You can choose all of your network settings etc. once you're in there.
i guess i know where youre talking about is but there the only personalized settings i can modify r the network ones (for the network adapter) http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/images/icons/icon13.gif.
is it possible the portuguese version of W2k pro can only make typical installation?!
if so!!! that sucks a lot!!!
What exactly do you mean by "Personalized Installation"?
its the custom one, where the user can choose the utilities to be installed. im not talking about the network components - i mean: wordpad, paint, imaging, games, netmeeting, outlook express, backup, cd player etc.

That sounds like 20lbs of ***** in a 10lb bag, my friend.
You can so choose what you want installed. Its later in the GUI faze, but before the networking stuff (the networking stuff is at the end, or very close to it). Unfortunately, I have no pics of where this part is. It looks like when you're in the Windows Components Wizard section of Add/Remove programs. You can select all of the stuff that you want installed/don't want installed through this section of the GUI faze. I know that its not much help, but if you install it, keep your eyes open for it. Its closer to the end of the GUI faze.
Hoped that helped.
ok thanks, that helps actually. unfortunately i wont still be able to do it but i know its possible. ive installed server version in english and it gave me the option to choose the applications but when went to the portuguese version of the Pro no-one ive tried was able to make a custom installation.
actually i think ms is right in a way. i believe if you can remove stuff from the instal cd and then burn a copy and instal windows with less components. i have no idea how to do it though and ms (the company) probably considers it illegal since your messing with their instal software or some crap.

Judging by the French versions of WIN that I have to work with. They don't seem to have all the options that the english versions do. I'll have to check on it when I get into work tomorrow, but I think that any language version of WIN is setup to install the bare minimum of components. It doesn't seem to give you as many setup options as the english versions. I've never really taken too much notice of it. My main problem was remembering where all the keys to type in the CD key were. It's hard to figure out where everything is when you're installing a french OS and using an english keyboard.
Now that other people have confirmed it, I would say it was your language edition. The other people here are stating that other language versions of Windows don't have certain features.
And we know you're not trying to make a hacked CD or something, just trying to customize your Win2k installation. You won't be banned or anything for that :)
You might want to try to get ahold of the Multilingual version of Windows2000 and try that. That might let you choose what to install and what not to install, because it has many many languages to it, not just portugese.

ok, thanks overload. it seems there r some W2K and XP version which give no option for the customized installation but there is (surprisely) a fix for that. ill try it and then it will be a hacked version!
there were two things id like to fix in my W2K pro cD. the first one (to make the CD bootable) i got reading this article which im publishing for the case someone is interested on: http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/ ;the other one, this one microsoft~s guide made not the proper result: i made all the changes to get the custom installation during the setup process, made it on another CD (a copied one) but it still keeps installing everything by default - now i have the option to remove it after the setup at least. im doubtful about the "distribution share": what is it? can it be a CD with copied W2k and modifications in the Sysoc.in_?
thanks for the attention.
I got to say that was something I was curious about as well. Ive installed 2k at least a dozen times and I havent been able to find the area where to cancel (as it were) the install of certain things, games etc. I have a 2k beta 3 and when I installed off of it, the option was there.... But thanks for the link to that site, gonna see what I can do with that!
any of both ways, choosing or not the additional components, the fact is that W2K will always install things such as Netmeeting, Outlook Express, Backup and some other ones i cant remember right now and thats really a bad issue. W98 is so much better in this aspect, a lot more user demander.
its possible im missing something here but i experienced W2k Server English version and the components described above had never been able to be removed during the setup process, even with the option i cant manage to get with W2K pro: the custom installation of the components.
