View Full Version : Anything better than blue orb for vcard cooling?
anything better than the blorb for cooling a vcard, except watercooling and HSF's made for 1.5Ghz CPU's :)

im gonna get the blue thermaltake ram sinks and a borb (cause they look good together the oorb wouldn't) will they be any good on a geforce 3? ie the ramsinks and the borb on th back to get two sided cooling? my gcard (3dprophet 2 mx 64mb) has no clips oc pants how should i attach the orb? artic silver wif 4 dabs of superglue and same for ramsinks? or using the tape?
I'd stay away from the BLORB. It's probably better than stock HSF, but there are some serious issues with that orb. Like the base that actually consist of 3 different parts pressed together with poor thermal interface between them. Use some normal HSF and you should be fine!
My Asus 6800Dx Geforce256:
Stock hsf: 65c
Blorb: 55c
Homemade solution with HSF + HS on back of card: 40c
Case at 25c

i heard that the orange orb is only one part of metal is that better? surely its better than the 486 stock heatsink and no fan! i used one before and found it was very good so why does everyone say there pants?
don't slam on the blorb homie, theres no doubt it's better than a stock cooler. It also depends on what Vcard u have to though, if u put it on a GF3 or GF2 ultra it probably would be the same effect that the stock HSF would have provided. I have the blorb for my GF2 Pro and i can o/c the core 40Mhz, at the time i didn't know about these other HSF's or i probably would have got one of them. Cause i'm just a crazy overclocker. but i'd say that the blorbie is good for low end-medium Vcards.
P.S. plus its cheap and looks really cool.

blorbs need some serious lapping.
Maximus Nickus
10-24-01, 04:51 AM
how much lapping? and why did the lapping guide say you need glass?
they just use the glass to go inbetween the sandpaper while sanding, probably cause it's flat. I just use a hacked up CD-R.
After some modding, and using two big HS, I can take my old Geforce 256 core from 120 to 175. That's a noticable difference!
..but the card now weighs 150grams extra...
My solution for all heat related issues. WATERCOOL IT!!! Take the Plunge.
