So, any problems you can forsee? I'm using the 27" as the primary monitor... I won't have any problems getting my video card to output to it on boot should I?

I've looked into getting the DFI lanparty, and it's a great mobo, but I'm really looking for an easy build, and that's what the asus promises. Also, i was gonna get a better video card, but i like this one because it's got dual dvi, hdtv output at a reasonable price. if you can think of another card with those features at a similar or slightly higher price, i'd be totally willing to consider it. i'm eventually gonna get an Xfi sound card and an ATI HDTV wonder so that my monitor can be used for its intended purpose.

thanks for checking it out and for any comments you wanna make.

wow... dude that sucks.

I'd rather get the Epox and hold off on the Speakers till later and get a 7800gt if you're going to stay with that tv tuner or an AIW card. Hard drive isn't up to my expectations as it is very quiet but it's slow. I heard you can adjust the new 500gb hitachi deskstars to be either silent or fast or both. I would see how that would turn out.

Don't get the modstream, for the money I'd rather get a fortron 550w from www.ewiz.com, or look for one of those nice deals on the 520w powerstream.

ouch, iceman, ouch. but hey, i did say *any* comments are welcome

i cant hold off on the speakers, as i dont have anything that makes sound. and a compy without sound is as useless to me as a compy without a monitor.

are you saying you don't think the video card is up to the task of working with the tuner and or the HDTV wonder? i'm not trying to disagree, i'm just trying to understand what you mean, and why, if possible.

yeah, i might see how the 500gig deskstars would turn out too, if i were spending somebody else's money. i wanted a quiet HDD, and samsung seems to be the company for that, which is what i was going for there.

thanks also ckj, i like the powerstream, but i'm concerned that the 80mm fan on there will be louder than the modstream's 120mm.

thanks for the comments so far, keep em coming, if you will :)

If you want quiet, try and fit a seasonic in your budget, I hear they're the quietest psu's available.

also make sure you get the Toledo core 3800 available at ewiz

and that's a lotta cpu speed for such a lame vid card
i think ati is gayer than steve jobs and bill gates in a hot pink vw bug, but for like 180-200 bucks u can get one of those magical x800GTO's and flash it to an X850 PE or whatever. there's a thread on it in Cyber Deals.

You are better off with the Fortron 500 watt Blue Storm than the Modstream. There are better, but they cost more. Since you are in NO you can get the Fortron shipped at Actbuy for $79.49, which would end up cheaper than the ewiz price after shipping.

Also, the Asus board is solid, but you will get a better OC from the Epox.
I suggest you check around as their can be better buys out there than just Newegg. While I use them, I also use ZZF, chiefvalue.com and others.

Sorry to hear about your loss, hope insurance helps ya out and you can get back to normal :)

Anyway, my advice/suggestions:
ditch the 27"...that one LCD has less pixels than one of your old 19" dell had. That price is outragious for the number of pixels your getting. Buy a 20" 2005 or 2405 which has...crap I can't even multiply that high more pixels.
ditch the 6600Gt and the fancy pancy ram
get value ram and a 6800GT or better.
lastly...get some SPEAKERS!

awesome, thanks fuys for all the comments. i'm gonna check out those seasonics. ajrettke, i understand i'm paying more per pixel, but that monitor can do something your dells can't: act as a tv for my living room. i totally understand that the dells are probably better in a number of ways, but i need something big enough for a home tv/computer monitor, and this one comes with high recommendations. i have a set of z5500s on the list already (see above)... which i like a lot more than the klipsch, mostly for their versatility and good looks.

thanks again, i'm hopefully gonna buy this real soon, and if i'm lucky, you won't hear from me for a while (which means the build went a-ok).

thanks also ckj, i like the powerstream, but i'm concerned that the 80mm fan on there will be louder than the modstream's 120mm.

I have owned both the OCZ modstream 520W and currently OCZ powerstream 520W and I can tell you from experience that my Powerstream is just as quiet as my modstream was. I would not reccomend the modstream for these reasons:

1. The cables are hard as hell to bend and get them to go where you want.

2. Voltages fluctuated more than I though would given a $100+ psu.

3. No voltage adjustment knobs.

but if you really have your heart set on a Modstream I will sell you my 3 month old PSU.

cool, thanks man. hey, i was just near college station last weekend at the ren fair north of the woodlands... thanks for the comparison info. and thanks for the offer, but be careful with stuff like that, cause i think you may not be allowed to do what you did there... offering to sell something outside the classifieds section of the forum. i'm definitely going to reconsider that PSU.

well, here's the things i've changed my mind on. the new stuff:

BFG Tech BFGR78256GTOC Geforce 7800GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail - http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814143037

SeaSonic S12-430 ATX12V 430W Power Supply - Retail - http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16817151023

i figured why waste 180 on a video card that i'd eventually want to upgrade. even if i waited a year, that 7800gt would still be over 200, which would be 180 for the pny and 200 for the bfg, so 380+ a year from now or 380 now... the choice was easy.

and the seasonic cause they are aparrantly rather silent.

thanks everyone for your advice. feel free to comment again if i seem to have made a big mistake.

That Antec case is the shiiznite but you can defanitely get it cheaper elsewhere. Amazon and provantage come to mind.

that may be true, what, but you gotta keep in mind that shipping things together saves me money on postage. usually the price difference isnt enough to outweigh the savings in postage and convenience. plus i have a lot of loyalty to newegg.
