Can someone answer some questions about the Gigabyte GV-3D1-68GT Dual GeForce 6800 GT PCI Express 512MB DDR3 Video Card for me?

1. Anyone know what the core clock & memory clock numbers are?
2. Anyone know or have some 3DMark numbers?
3. Will 2 of them run on a motherboard that has 2 - 16x slots?
4. What do you know about this dual GPU card? Is it a gaming monster? The price would indicate that it is!

P.S. They claim 20,000 in 3Dmark03, and just under 10,000 in 3Dmark05.

1. No clue.
2. No clue.
3. They will very likely run together, but you will not be able to use them in SLI. Just as sepperate cards.
4. Its probably a tad faster than 2 6800GT's in SLI.

Those 3dmarks sound about right, my X800GTO˛ gets about 7000 (05) when overclocked. I would have thought they might have gotten a bit higher, but perhaps the card is a bit clocked down because of heat issues?

Also, I believe the that 3D1 requires you to have a Gigabyte motherboard. I know the dual 6600 model did.

Here's the specs..........not too impressive.
Core Clock: 370MHz
Memory Clock:1,000MHz

But the 3DMarks!
20,460!
So, will it smoke the 7800GTX?

"GV-3D1-68GT is compatible with any PCI Express graphics capable motherboard in a single card configuration .To achieve the best performance,GV-3D1-68GT is recommended to enable with the following models":
GA-K8NXP-SLI
GA-K8N Ultra-SLI
GA-K8N Pro-SLI
GA-8N-SLI Royal
GA-8N-SLI Pro

There was a work around with the older 6600 card to work on other brand Mobos but I cant remember exactly what it was.
Im thinking it was turning the PCI slot down to either 8x or maybe even 1x then it would work on other mobos.
This might be the case with the 6800 too.

I wish more companies would look into this and open up dual GPU cards.
The old 3dfx dual core cards ripped so I dont see why no one else would try it. They would be fantastic if you could use them with no exemptions on any mobo and also have SLI compatibility.

Nope, it wont smoke a 7800gtx, in a few senarios it will be slightly faster, for the most part it will be slower, while putting alot more heat into your case, and in the last article i read in maxpc it wasnt supposed to be mobo limited the way the dual6600 card was. Oh and while it does have 512mb of memory, its the same 512 you would get from a pair of 256 gts, so you only get the performance of two 6800gts in sli, not a "true" 512mb of texure memory. This product is a gimmick, doesnt have the performance or the value, and should be passed on to the people who think compusa is a good place to shop for a computer.

Compusa? Frys? Best Buy? They still sell computers? :bang head
Home built is the best you can get.

But out of all of em Frys is the worst. They have a full line of REPACKAGING equipment. No thanks!

So than I'm assuming the 7800GTX is hitting (around) the same kinda 3DMarks, (20,000) right outta the box, as this card?

Yep. I wouldn't bother with a dual 6800GT card, as the 7800GTX can basically hit the same FPS at a lower price. The dual 6800GT seems to be quite gimmicky, and I wouldn't be surprised if that card had heat issues as well.

I remember reading somewhere, MaximumPC maybe, that the 512mb cards arent worth the money because the performance isnt that much higher over a 256mb card. Something about the interface not being set up for the 512mb of RAM. Not exactly sure but that is about the gist of it.
