my temps were a little high.. they were 52full load.. so i took off my new waterblock ordered from dangerden and started to lap the waterblock...
ok... looks nice and put the block back, wouldn't boot... resetted cmos... booted up but the temps were 54 no o/c and wouldn't get into bios... so i took of the waterblock again, saw that the corner of the core is chipped off... looks like i gota get a new one if warranty doesn't cover it.. damn  :(

Welcome to the club. Sorry to hear that your CPU got killed. I know from personal experience that you're not the first, though, and you're not likely to be the last.
Good luck with the next one.

well if the cpu still works I"ll give u $5 for it......if it still works why not keep using it
I don't understand! I guess some chips are different. I have a Duron (looking at it right now) and it doesn't have a corner left on it, and it still works!

You lost a corner out of your die and the thing works? Do you mean that you lost a corner off the backing? I think that the die's about as delicate as anything else you'll find.

Yeah, the core looks like a small oval. Even the sides or chipped.

AND IT STILL WORKS??????? THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE. You should return it for one that behaves logically.

Actually I've seen pictures worse than mine. I had it overclocked and everything. It was a Duron 700@950. :)

Man, this sucks. You guys get chips that can survive reshaping and one little chip on the core and mine's toast.

Try & clean the CPU out then apply ASII as thin as possible & making sure it doesnt get on anything else. If that thing boots then it must still work. Maybe some crapp is shorting something out. I got a big chip on mine & it's still working like nothin' happened:cool:

i did reapply ASII and it booted when i resetted cmos but just stops when it is at the windows 2k loading screen...
blue screen... i think its the problem with heat, maybe the chipped corner didn't transfer the heat to the waterblock... anyway i'm just going for the warranty on monday.. *Crosses my fingers* :o

Is chipping a CPU core some sort of rite of passage? Maybe I can still get something good out of it.

I'd have to consider it a  death  experience.
I find it funny that My 1.2 Axia has at least 4 chips on the CORE.All are on corners.
This processor works fine,And ...I do consider my self lucky and for no good reason sold it off for the 1.4 I have on my Epox Board..
Of course I set it back to stock and it works just fine..I remember seeing the first chip,I almost died heart starting racing thought I was dead,By the 3rd chip I was so unconcerned because according to a lot of people i was lucky it dident die at chip 1.
If it runs with no errors in a math test like prime 95,,Your cooling issues will be related more to the instalation of sink and Artic silver than a tiny chip.My cpu still does not run hot after 4 chips.
Gotta love Them AXIA'S................And I can say I finally can install a heat sink without chipping processor LMAO,,,thanks again old 1.2 Axia.

If my AYHJA weren't dead from its first chip, it'd OC better than your AXIA from what I've heard. I notice that there are a few dealers on pricewatch that sell AXIAs. How do they OC vs AYHJAs? It might be worth it if it were a more durable chip (no pun intended).
Edit: Also, what are the all the numbers on this miracle chip of yours? Or do you not have them?
