get him a 7800gt if he has that type of budget and then a 500gb hd. check out the x-fi from creative too as it is top of the line.

thats alot more bro, the gt is $400 and the X-fi is $280, and WD doesnt make a 500 gb hd.

if he's gonna game then definetly 7800GT...if not that'll be more then enough
Also, I'd second the X2, and if he's not OCing no need to spend that much cash on RAM. You can get 2gb of PC3200 for 150 bucks.

And I'd check into an M-Audio sound card or something else, creative is junk.

$1800 was his max budget...

If theres a way to fit in the x2 then someone please tell me how im sure he'd be very much happier i aggree.. hes not gaming so i think the x700 should be plenty.

if he doesn't game, he doesn't need the x700. get him a 6200 or something similar to save money. if he's working with audio a lot, he needs a good sound card. the x-fi would work well here, or for more music-oriented work go to headfi.com for recomendations, they're a bunch of audio nuts. also, he needs a good cpu for encoding audio. i'd definetely get the x2 over the san diego. to save some money, just get 2gb of valueram instead of what you got. unless he really needs 400gb of hd space, get him a 250gb sata drive for less than half the price. also, make sure he really needs a lightscribe drive, and get only 1 of them as there's really no need for 2 of them the same drives. lastly, unless he's going to be ocing, there's no need for an aftermarket heatsink.

a 6200 is just a plain waste of money so just get something "okay"(ie: 6600? or 9800pro?)

I didn't change it to a 6200, its still a X700 Pro Sapphire with the After Market Cooling on it..(installed at factory)(sapphire pwns)(i have 2 of there ultimate cards... 9600 & x800xl)

btw... 9800 pro isnt made in pci-e.
